Special Presentations and Recognitions City Manager MichaeL J. Lucking opened the meeting with the following: A. PR022-14 A proclamation to honor the Dayton Demonz on winning the 2013-2014 Federal Hockey League Championship on April 19, 2014, and celebrating three winning games out of five in this year’s championship. Attachments: Dayton Demonz 6-2-14 Mayor Cameron read a proclamation from the Office of the Mayor and Trotwood City Council celebrating their winning 2013-2014 Federal Hockey League Championship on April 19, 2014. This is the first for Dayton since the 1975-1976 Dayton Gems won the league. We would like to recognize the Owner Barry Soskin, General Manager Paul Contreas, Head Coach Jack Collins and Assistant Coach Jeff Schetroma (mascot). Their team is very active in promoting their events to get the word out to the community. Thank you for this recognition. VII. City Manager Lucking explained this contract for for the resufacing of U.S. 35 at Bricker Avenue to S.R. 49 which is an ODOT Ohio Department of Transportation for the repaving of approximately one mile in length. We are required to participate with our estimated contribution cost of 20% of the project or $42,470.00. This repaving is scheduled for the 2014 construction season. This item was presented at our previous workshop meeting. Mayor Cameron requested a motion to approve Resoution 14-44. A motion was made by Mr. Hankins, and seconded by Mrs. Staggs. City Manager Lucking said this vacancy has been vacant for some time for a five year term on the Board of Zoning Appeals. Mr. David Rice, a Trotwood resident, was the only applicant received and interviewed by a committee. Mayor Cameron requested a motion to approve Resolution 14-45. A motion was made by mr. Council Members - 1) Ward Updates, 2) Announcements Mrs. Gales, Ward 1 - A community event at the Consumer Square was sponsored by Checks Mart which included a live radio station advertisement had a big turn out. It's our hope they would return and advertise in the future. Thank you city manager in helping her with the Sycamore Woods flower beautification. Mr. Hankins, Ward 2 - The First Tier Suburbs sponsored their meeting in Trotwood at the Friendship Village Retirement Center this past Thursday with fourteen municipalities participating. Two presentations were on the agenda, the City of Trotwood Strategic Plan by Quincy E. Pope, Public Safety Director Deputy City Manager; and the Honorable Nan Whaley of Dayton spoke about her role within the region and beyond. Mrs. McDonald , Ward 4 - Thank you Councilman Vaughn who attending their neighborhood meeting where they discussed our city being non-partisian based on the City Charter. Her facebook page for Ward 4 will be up and running tomorrow. Mr. Vaughn, Ward 3 - The former Larch Tree golf course has a sale pending with Five Rivers Metro Park to develop this area for walking parks and more. This is a preliminary announcement that will create a very nice nature preserve for our city. Mr. Kettelle, At- Large - A new facebook page also has been set up that replaces the "Save Trotwood Target" page is now called "Discover Trotwood Shop Local" please review. Mayor Cameron - All of council is welcomed to join the Mayor Walk-n-Talk starting in Ward 1 scheduled for June 13th. The application is for a C1 & C2 liquor for normal carry beer and wine to be sold at this location. Fuel Express is the new owner has two other locations in other jurisdictions in good standing. They also are in the process of remodeling the outside, their building, and now have working gas pumps. After formal review of this application, the Police Department is not opposed to this use and recommends no hearing at this time. the next step is for zoning department to approve. Lucking said, this is a CDGB grant for a resurfacing project we were awarded for 2014. Mr. Dalton Hines Operating Manager explained this project encompasses the grinding and repaving along Main Street to Wolf Creek Pike in Olde town. The total awarded grant dollars are $65,000.00. For this project the total cost is $46,743.50 for paving and grinding. The curb and gutter replacement cost will be $4,500 for 180' on the north side and 80' on the south side of Main Street. Public Works will be doing the work themselves utilizing our own paver starting with the preparation for the grinding and then paving of the street. Pope, Sr., updated City Council on the Parks & Recreation programs upcoming for the summer 2014: Trotwood Community Garden - Sign up to plant your garden sponsored by the Trotwood Band Boosters by calling 7508212 or 239-9010 . Trotwood Farmers Market - Starts 2nd Saturday in June through 2nd Saturday in October. Located at the northweat corner of Shiloh Springs Road and Salem Avenue. $50.00 permit is required for the entire season, applications are availabel the the government center. Municipal swimming pool is now open - Located at UTS United Theological Seminary. Starting May 24 thru Sept. 1st in partnership with the YMCA. Rates are reasonable rates are: Trotwood residents family $100.00. adult $80.00 youth &, senior 50.00. Non-residents members students $150.00 audlt $100.00, youth & senior $70.00 day passes are available too. SAY Fall soccer sign ups for boys and girls - 3 yr to age 15 May 31 at 10 am - 1pm located at 701 East Main Street, or June 28th at Madison Park pavillion. city wide garage sale runs June 12 thru 15th. per mit fee is waived. Trotwood Block is Saturday, September 13th from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. with fireworks. Trotwood Dragon Night at 5/3 field will be Friday, June 27. Tickets are available at the government center.
