MINUTES COMMITTEE ON AGING 12 NOON WEDNESDAY, November 18, 2015 TULARE SENIOR COMMUNITY CENTER, 201 NORTH “F” STREET BILL THOMPSON ROOM MISSION STATEMENT TO PROMOTE A COMMUNITY MAKING TULARE THE MOST DESIRABLE PLACE TO LIVE, LEARN, PLAY, WORK, WORSHIP AND PROSPER I. CALL TO ORDER The Regular Meeting of the Committee on Aging was called to order at 12:01 p.m. by Albert Lemus at the Tulare Senior Community Center, Bill Thompson Room. MEMBERS PRESENT: Albert Lemus, Truman, Jackie Zupp MEMBERS ABSENT: Dick Johnson and Deanne Martin-Soares STAFF PRESENT: Brian Beck and Lorraine Zorn II. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The flag salute was conducted. III. CITIZEN COMMENTS – None. IV. COMMUNICATIONS - None. V. CONSENT CALENDAR (1) The minutes of October 21, 2015, were M/S/P by Jackie Zupp and Norris Truman and unanimously approved. VI. SCHEDULED CITIZEN OR GROUP PRESENTATIONS – None. VII. GENERAL BUSINESS NUTRITION REPORT: Lorraine Zorn presented the October 2015 Report. Brian Beck mention that an RFP will be going out in December for contract services for the caterer. Jackie Zupp suggested that sandwiches not be on the menu more than 1-2 per week. RECREATION REPORT: Lorraine Zorn presented the October Report. Trips –  Table Mountain Casino, November 19 was cancelled due to lack of participation. We still continue to offer trips by Collete Vacations. Special Events – Lorraine mentioned that we offered many special event/outreach activities such as the Veterans Ceremony, Healthy Living & Information Faire, Halloween Bash, Flu clinic, Dementia Tour, Kidney Smart and Finance Class. The Birthdays is a new activity that was coordinated by Karie Rodriguez. Each month, 3rd Friday, a table in the dining room is set with a purple table cloth, Happy Birthday centerpiece and cake/cupcake for each senior having a birthday that Month. We take pictures and put it on our monthly newsletter and Facebook page. In addition, birthday cards written by the Sunshine Club, are given to the seniors as they come in to lunch. Cards are also given to home delivery clients and very much appreciated. Classes & Activities – Lorraine mentioned that Zumba Gold will no longer be offered due to Instructor’s other personal obligations. This class may resume in January 2017. The Introductory Water Color Class has really grown in popularity and they instructor, Kacey Fansett, is doing a great job and very enthusiastic. The AARP Tax Service will be starting in about month. Another upcoming event is thr holiday Boutique TULARE SENIOR SERVICES, INC. (TSS) – The annual Christmas Party will be December 18, 7-10pm, $8 entrance fee. VIII. OLD BUSINESS - Lorraine Zorn asked to further discuss Volunteer Handbook/Contract to start January 2016 and how should the ceremony be conducted. The goal is to not offend volunteers who are not compensated. It was decided to come up with a category type system for the 2016 Volunteers which will be recognized February 2017 ceremony. IX.
