MINUTES COMMITTEE ON AGING 12 NOON WEDNESDAY, September 21, 2016 TULARE SENIOR COMMUNITY CENTER, 201 NORTH “F” STREET BILL THOMPSON ROOM MISSION STATEMENT TO PROMOTE A COMMUNITY MAKING TULARE THE MOST DESIRABLE PLACE TO LIVE, LEARN, PLAY, WORK, WORSHIP AND PROSPER I. CALL TO ORDER The Regular Meeting of the Committee on Aging was called to order at 12:07 p.m. by Albert Lemus at the Tulare Senior Community Center, Bill Thompson Room. MEMBERS PRESENT: Albert Lemus, Pam Malloy, Kathy Perryman, and Jackie Zupp MEMBERS ABSENT: STAFF PRESENT: Brian Beck and Lorraine Zorn II. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The flag salute was conducted. III. CITIZEN COMMENTS – None. IV. COMMUNICATIONS - Lorraine presented an email from Paul Nichols, Family Services of Tulare County – Rape Crisis – They are a Non Profit recently received funding to hire a Victim Advocate. They have asked if this person can work at the Tulare Senior Center for a few hours once a month. This would allow them to enhance their services to victims 50 and older. The Victim Advocate would give handouts, make presentations and be available to answer questions/concerns. V. CONSENT CALENDAR (1) The minutes of July 20, 2016, were M/S/P by Pam Malloy and Albert Lemus and unanimously approved. VI. SCHEDULED CITIZEN OR GROUP PRESENTATIONS – None. VII. GENERAL BUSINESS  a. NUTRITION REPORT: Lorraine Zorn presented the July and August 2016 Report. Lorraine noted there has been an increase in attendance in the C1 program. In the last 6 months staff has seen an increase in seniors who are homeless. b. RECREATION REPORT: Lorraine Zorn presented the July and August 2016 Report. Trips – Chukchansi Casino trip on September 15 was a success and three trips for 2017 are scheduled: March 16, June 15, & September 14. The charter bus company used is Classic Charter. Collette Trips have also been scheduled for 2017: New Orleans & the Dep South, Alaska & the Yukon, and Newfoundland & Labrador Discovery Special Events – Upcoming Luncheons: Western Day was celebrated last Monday and upcoming events are Halloween Bash, October 31st and Veteran’s Day Ceremony, November 8th. In addition, 2 fundraiser for the MOW are Tulare Senior Softball Tourney, April 29 & 30, 2017 and the Moo Mile & 5K run, Zumwalt Park, September 30, 2017. Classes & Activities – Lorraine stated that the Crochet/Knit class will be making baby hats and will be collected by the hospital to distribute to newborns from Tulare Hospital. This group had been sponsored for many years by Tucoemas FCU but will be ending their service September 30, 2016. Donations for baby yarn will be requested from the TSS Newsletter, Senior Column and the Healthcare Conglomerate Associates (HCCA)/Tulare Regional Medical Center. The Senior Softball league will be ending their league season this week. The school year has begun and the Tulare Adult School is back and sponsoring the Blood Pressure Screening. c. TULARE SENIOR SERVICES REPORT: None. VIII. OLD BUSINESS – None.. IX. NEW BUSINESS – None. X. ITEMS OF BOARD INTEREST XI. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 12:36.m.
