MINUTES COMMITTEE ON AGING 12 NOON WEDNESDAY, February 15, 2017 TULARE SENIOR COMMUNITY CENTER, 201 NORTH “F” STREET BILL THOMPSON ROOM MISSION STATEMENT TO PROMOTE A COMMUNITY MAKING TULARE THE MOST DESIRABLE PLACE TO LIVE, LEARN, PLAY, WORK, WORSHIP AND PROSPER I. CALL TO ORDER The Regular Meeting of the Committee on Aging was called to order at 12:08 p.m. by Jackie Zupp at the Tulare Senior Community Center, Bill Thompson Room. MEMBERS PRESENT: Albert Lemus, Jackie Zupp, Pam Malloy, MEMBERS ABSENT: Priscilla Musgrove & Kathy Perryman STAFF PRESENT: Brian Beck and Lorraine Zorn II. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The flag salute was conducted. III. CITIZEN COMMENTS – Brian commented on the success of the Volunteer Recognition ceremony. IV. COMMUNICATIONS - None. V. CONSENT CALENDAR (1) The minutes of January 18, 2017, were M/S/P by Pam Malloy and Jackie Zupp and unanimously approved. VI. SCHEDULED CITIZEN OR GROUP PRESENTATIONS – None. VII. GENERAL BUSINESS a. NUTRITION REPORT: Lorraine Zorn presented the January report. Lorraine mentioned the huge increase on the use of Bus (yellow) transportation tickets. In January 2016 - 66 tickets were distributed and in January of 2017 - 168 tickets were distributed. These tickets do not require the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) certification. But do require the senior have a lunch reservation.  b. RECREATION REPORT: Lorraine Zorn presented January 2017 Report. Lorraine stated that the Watercolors Instructor, Kasey Fansett, last day of instruction was last Monday. Kasey gained other employment in her hometown of Three Rivers. She will be missed, she was an excellent instructor and very knowledgeable. The Senior Softball league will start their 2017 season March 27th. There will be a Monday and Thursday night leagues. The manager for both evenings are inquiring about the purchase of a pitching net, they feel this purchase is needed. There is a Managers’ meeting next week and this will be one of the topics discussed. Trips – Chukchansi Casino trips have been scheduled for 2017: March 16, June 15 and September 14. New Orleans & the Deep South, October 15th—22nd, 2017; Double $2,599 Single $3,199; Highlights: French Quarter, WWII Museum, Cajun Cooking School, Baton Rogue, Natches, Martin Accordions, Vermilionville, Bayou Cruise. Special Events – Recent Luncheons: The Volunteer Recognition Ceremony was held last Friday and was a fantastic event. Approximately 140 were in attendance and 56 volunteers (present) were honored by Mayor Carlton Jones and Commission on Aging Chair, Albert Lemus, presented the awards. There was a total of 90 volunteers for 2016 totaling more than 9000 hours! Upcoming Events: St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon sponsored by Linwood Meadows, Tuesday, March 17, 11:30 am. Classes & Activities – None. c. TULARE SENIOR SERVICES REPORT: Jackie Zupp gave no report at this time but did mention that perhaps TSS can purchase the pitching net(s) for the senior softball league. VIII. OLD BUSINESS – None.. IX. NEW BUSINESS – None. X. ITEMS OF BOARD INTEREST XI.
