MINUTES COMMITTEE ON AGING 12 NOON WEDNESDAY, September 20, 2017 TULARE SENIOR COMMUNITY CENTER, 201 NORTH “F” STREET BILL THOMPSON ROOM MISSION STATEMENT TO PROMOTE A COMMUNITY MAKING TULARE THE MOST DESIRABLE PLACE TO LIVE, LEARN, PLAY, WORK, WORSHIP AND PROSPER I. CALL TO ORDER The Regular Meeting of the Committee on Aging was called to order at 12:00 p.m. by Albert Lemus at the Tulare Senior Community Center, Bill Thompson Room. MEMBERS PRESENT: Albert Lemus, Jackie Zupp, Pam Malloy, Priscilla Musgrove, and Kathy Perryman MEMBERS ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: Lorraine Zorn GUESTS: None. II. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The flag salute was conducted. III. CITIZEN COMMENTS – None. IV. COMMUNICATIONS - None. V. CONSENT CALENDAR (1) The minutes of August 16, 2017 were M/S/P by Pam Malloy and Priscilla Musgrove and unanimously approved. VI. SCHEDULED CITIZEN OR GROUP PRESENTATIONS – None. VII. GENERAL BUSINESS a. NUTRITION REPORT: Lorraine Zorn passed out the August 2017 report. b. RECREATION REPORT: Lorraine Zorn passed out the August 2017 report. Trips – The Chukchansi Casino trip was successful – had 50 seniors participate Sept 14! The cost was $20 and they received $10 play credit and $10 food credit.  Special Events – Last Monday, Sept 18, was Western Day, sponsored by Linwood Meadows. It was very well attended, cupcakes and root beer was served. Senior Day at the Fair was okay. Not too many contacts made. The Moo mile & 5K Run/Walk will be in 2 weeks, Sept 30. There are nearly 70 pre-registered and we expect more day of race registrations. Classes and Activities – The August 2017 report was given. c. TULARE SENIOR SERVICES REPORT: Jackie reported that the board has made instructional guideline for the bingo program. VIII. OLD BUSINESS – None. IX. NEW BUSINESS – Priscilla Musgrove brought up the discussion of the $5 entrance fee for seniors for the Tulare county Fair. It was agreed by the COA Board that the fee should be decreased or eliminated. Priscilla said she would attend the next Fair Board meeting. Lorraine brought up and passed out information on ADA of ‘service and ‘therapy’ dogs. Last week there was a senior who brought in a small lap dog to the bingo program. She said it was a therapy dog. There has always been a rule that dogs are not allowed in dining room and kitchen. I suggested that a guideline for both types of dogs be enforced so that staff and seniors are aware of rules for service and therapy dogs. All were in agreement. I will discuss matter with Brian Beck, Recreation Supervisor. X. ITEMS OF BOARD INTEREST XI.
