Tulare Library Advisory Board Meeting Tulare Public Library | 475 North M Street | Tulare, CA August 24, 2016, at 4:00pm | TPL Charter Room Facilitator: Lisa Hollingshead | Minutes: Jane Zikratch Attendees: Lisa Hollingshead; Ellen Baker; Michelle Lippincott; Donna Schauland; Rob Hunt; Heidi Clark; Sarah Fly; and, Jane Zikratch City of Tulare Mission Statement: To promote a quality of life making Tulare the most desirable community in which to live, learn, play, work, worship and prosper Minutes Topic Speaker I. CALL TO ORDER: 4:10p.m. after Nyelene spoke briefly about the Lisa Hollingshead Night at the Library fundraiser, distributing posters and tickets. II. CITIZEN COMMENTS: This is the time for citizens to comment on items within the Lisa Hollingshead jurisdiction of the Advisory Board. The Board cannot legally discuss or take official action on citizen comments that are introduced today. Each speaker will be allowed 3 minutes, with a maximum of 10 minutes per item, unless otherwise extended by the board. NONE III. COMMUNICATIONS: Communications are to be submitted 10 days prior to a Lisa Hollingshead meeting to be considered for this section of the Agenda. No action will be taken on matters listed under Communications; however, the Board may direct staff to schedule issues raised during Communications for a future agenda. Citizen comments will be limited to 3 minutes per topic, unless otherwise extended by Board. NONE IV. ITEMS OF STUDENT INTEREST N/A V. CONSENT CALENDAR: All Consent Calendar items are considered routine and will Lisa Hollingshead be enacted in one motion. There will be no separate discussion of these matters unless a request is made, in which event the item will be removed from the Consent Calendar to be discussed and voted upon by a separate motion. 1) Approval of Minutes – June 15, 2016 Motion made by Ellen Baker, second by Donna Schauland, carried by all. VI. SCHEDULED CITIZEN OR GROUP PRESENTATIONS Lisa Hollingshead VII. GENERAL BUSINESS Lisa Hollingshead 2) Staff Updates: Sarah Fly shared current youth Library Staff information—class tours have started for the year. Read2Ride is offering free ride tickets for the fair to kids Library Staff and Library Advisory who read and write about 2 books. TAP after-school Board tutoring will begin in Sept. Jane shared that we have 2 new students working on Board Members their Career Online High School prerequisite classes and one will interview tomorrow for the full scholarship. The Veterans Resource Center now has 3 work-study men to staff it 25 hours per week each. The Community Helper Round Table went well with about 30 different service providers in attendance. Heidi brought a sample of the new library cards that we will be giving in Sept. for National Library Card sign up month. Upcoming will be Read an E-book day on 9/16. Tables will be set up for demonstrations & handouts. Rob asked about passports. Things have slowed some, but another busy season is about to begin. The length of check-out has changed for some of the media. This is a trial period before we adjust the policy. Melissa is putting together an order of children’s books for the Kiwanis Club to donate to the Library. 3) Dashboard Brainstorming based on Strategic Plan Goals and Strategies to create and annually evaluate programs. For this topic we discussed using a spreadsheet format, different representational colors, and using a high school intern to do much of the computer work. We will work on this more when Sara can share more of the specifics of what she had in mind. 4) Library Advisory Board Suggestions. The Board is willing to have a dedicated work session to focus solely on creating a Strategic Plan Dashboard. VIII. ITEMS OF BOARD MEMBER INTEREST Lisa Hollingshead IX. ADJOURNMENT: 4:50pm after Heidi thought to add that we have Lisa Hollingshead a new database—Pronunciator for learning a language (40 choices) and Citizenship study.
