Tulare Library Advisory Board Meeting Tulare Public Library | 475 North M Street | Tulare, CA October 19, 2016, at 4:00pm | TPL Charter Room Facilitator: Lisa Hollingshead | Minutes: Melissa Emerson Attendees: Lisa Hollingshead; Ellen Baker; Michelle Lippincott; Terry Sayre; Donna Schauland; Heidi Clark; Melissa Emerson; Sarah Fly; Jane Zikratch; Marissa Moya City of Tulare Mission Statement: To promote a quality of life making Tulare the most desirable community in which to live, learn, play, work, worship and prosper Minutes Topic Speaker I. CALL TO ORDER 4:10pm Lisa Hollingshead II. CITIZEN COMMENTS: This is the time for citizens to comment on items within the Lisa Hollingshead jurisdiction of the Advisory Board. The Board cannot legally discuss or take official action on citizen comments that are introduced today. Each speaker will be allowed 3 minutes, with a maximum of 10 minutes per item, unless otherwise extended by the board. NONE III. COMMUNICATIONS: Communications are to be submitted 10 days prior to a Lisa Hollingshead meeting to be considered for this section of the Agenda. No action will be taken on matters listed under Communications; however, the Board may direct staff to schedule issues raised during Communications for a future agenda. Citizen comments will be limited to 3 minutes per topic, unless otherwise extended by Board. NONE IV. ITEMS OF STUDENT INTEREST Upcoming football games; a missing Marissa & Yesenia high school student has family and friends concerned. V. CONSENT CALENDAR: All Consent Calendar items are considered routine and will Lisa Hollingshead be enacted in one motion. There will be no separate discussion of these matters unless a request is made, in which event the item will be removed from the Consent Calendar to be discussed and voted upon by a separate motion.  Approval of Minutes – September 21, 2016 Donna moved to approve, Michelle seconded. Carried by all. VI. SCHEDULED CITIZEN OR GROUP PRESENTATIONS Lisa Hollingshead VII. GENERAL BUSINESS Lisa Hollingshead  Staff Updates (Food 4 Fines; Falling into Art; monthly stats; etc)Heidi: Monthly report--some statistics may not be in yet Library Staff because they are hard to tabulate, such as the number of patrons who received a new card during National Library Card Library Staff and Library Advisory Month. Board Melissa: TAP (Homework Help) has had several students in September. The “Read to Ride” program had 92 book Board Members summaries turned in for Fair Ride tickets. Our annual “Spooktacular” and Costume Contest on October 15th went well. The “Falling into Art” contest began on October 15th. Kids and teens can enter fall-themed artwork up until November 12th. Jane: We hosted a House Buyer workshop and had 15 attendees. Our upcoming Job Fair will have 21 different vendors for job seekers. Through the Food Link program we have also hosted Cooking and Nutrition classes that have been well received. On October 27th we will have a Retirement Workshop.  General Business, cont. Heidi: Our Food For Fines program will go before City Council this month. If approved, the library will take donations of non-perishable food items and coats and will waive up to 10$ of library fines. Donations will go to the Tulare Emergency Aid and the program will run November 22nd -December 22nd. Sarah Fly: Families and teens can participate in International Games Day on November 19th. During Teen Read Week we will have teens vote between their favorite books, such as Hunger Games vs Divergent. Heidi: Covered California will have a table in the library again in November. We are also a voting place on November 8th.  Library Advisory Board Suggestions None VIII. ITEMS OF BOARD MEMBER INTEREST Lisa Hollingshead Donna: The Friends of the Library “Free Books Shelf” was a great idea. IX.
