Tulare Library Advisory Board Meeting Tulare Public Library | 475 North M Street | Tulare, CA November 16, 2016, at 4:00pm | TPL Charter Room Facilitator: Lisa Hollingshead | Minutes: Jane Zikratch Attendees: Lisa Hollingshead; Michelle Lippincott; Terry Sayre; Rob Hunt; Heidi Clark; Sarah Fly; Jane Zikratch; Marissa Moya; Yesenia Zepeda City of Tulare Mission Statement: To promote a quality of life making Tulare the most desirable community in which to live, learn, play, work, worship and prosper Minutes Topic Speaker I. CALL TO ORDER 4:04pm Lisa Hollingshead II. CITIZEN COMMENTS: This is the time for citizens to comment on items within the Lisa Hollingshead jurisdiction of the Advisory Board. The Board cannot legally discuss or take official action on citizen comments that are introduced today. Each speaker will be allowed 3 minutes, with a maximum of 10 minutes per item, unless otherwise extended by the board. NONE III. COMMUNICATIONS: Communications are to be submitted 10 days prior to a Lisa Hollingshead meeting to be considered for this section of the Agenda. No action will be taken on matters listed under Communications; however, the Board may direct staff to schedule issues raised during Communications for a future agenda. Citizen comments will be limited to 3 minutes per topic, unless otherwise extended by Board. NONE IV. ITEMS OF STUDENT INTEREST Marissa & Yesenia Marissa shared that they will have the whole week off for Thanksgiving. Yesenia reported that the Winter Formal is Dec. 10th. This may be the last dance partly because party busses create a problem. V. CONSENT CALENDAR: All Consent Calendar items are considered routine and will Lisa Hollingshead be enacted in one motion. There will be no separate discussion of these matters unless a request is made, in which event the item will be removed from the Consent Calendar to be discussed and voted upon by a separate motion.  Approval of Minutes – October 19, 2016 Motion to approve carried.  Holiday Monday Closures The Library staff would like to have a 3-day weekend for some Monday holidays. Rob said that the City is aware of this, and recommended we wait to see what they have planned. VI. SCHEDULED CITIZEN OR GROUP PRESENTATIONS Lisa Hollingshead VII. GENERAL BUSINESS Lisa Hollingshead  Staff Updates (Food 4 Fines; Volunteer Recognition Brunch; monthly stats; etc) Library Staff F4F is Nov. 22-Dec. 22. Late fees can be reduced up to $10 by donating non-perishable food or coats. Library Staff and Library Advisory The Volunteer Brunch will be Dec. 17th at 9:00 a.m. Board CA Competes Tax Credit Workshop will be Dec. 1st in the Board Members Council Chambers. The new Chamber of Commerce CEO is Donnette Silva. She was previously in Porterville Last month’s Job Fair was very successful—100 attendees and 50 vendor representatives. We will have 2 new seasonal staff members. One has started, McCayla, in the adult services area. The new youth staff member is still to come. An upgrade to the check-out software created issues with self-check, fines and due dates. The Los Banos library opened a Veterans Resource Center. They appreciated the flowers we sent. Kids will have international game day on Saturday. Falling into Art worked out well. Many kids waited for the last days to submit their entries. Youth services will have special activities for winter break. Rob reported that the City prevailed in the General Plan law suit. Rob said that the water system improvements are moving forward. The last City Council Meeting was controversial as it didn’t approve the Paige Ave./freeway interchange.  Library Advisory Board Suggestions VIII.
