I. CALL TO ORDER 4:01 Lisa Hollingshead 2
II. CITIZEN COMMENTS: This is the time for citizens to comment on items within the Lisa Hollingshead 2
jurisdiction of the Advisory Board. The Board cannot legally discuss or take official action on
citizen comments that are introduced today. Each speaker will be allowed 3 minutes, with a
maximum of 10 minutes per item, unless otherwise extended by the board. N/A
III. COMMUNICATIONS: Communications are to be submitted 10 days prior to a Lisa Hollingshead 2
meeting to be considered for this section of the Agenda. No action will be taken on matters
listed under Communications; however, the Board may direct staff to schedule issues raised
during Communications for a future agenda. Citizen comments will be limited to 3 minutes
per topic, unless otherwise extended by Board. N/A
IV. ITEMS OF STUDENT INTEREST Students are getting back into their Crystal & Stephanie 5
regular schedule after being off for Winter Break.
V. CONSENT CALENDAR: All Consent Calendar items are considered routine and will Lisa Hollingshead 2
be enacted in one motion. There will be no separate discussion of these matters unless a
request is made, in which event the item will be removed from the Consent Calendar to be
discussed and voted upon by a separate motion.

• Community Services updates: Community Services Director

• Snapshot of Stats & Library Updates: Some stats may be
lower due to the holiday closures. Library Staff 10
• Programs & Outreach (VRC, COHS, staffing, etc.)
Introduced Michael Garcia, new Library Assistant in Youth Board Members 10
Services.
o Library Manager Clark: This year, TPL is celebrating two
anniversaries: 10 years at the Cross and M location; 115 years
serving Tulare. We are planning several programs, with the
biggest event to be on August 22nd. The Night at the Library
fundraiser will be the following week, August 31st. Will tie-in to
the anniversary celebration.
o We are also scheduling a Staff Safety Training for January 18 th.
Board Members are welcome to attend and participate.
o Librarian Emerson gave an overview of a new reading program
for Kids ages 3-13. Will start February 1st and end on March 7th,
the day of our annual Dr. Seuss event.
o Library Assistant Garcia gave an overview of our Dr. Seuss event
and “Seusstacular Week,” March 3rd-7th.
o Librarian Roache discussed new City-wide website changes
and that they will be calling in some outside expert help. She is
also part of the City Safety Commission which meets once a
month.
o Librarian Roache gave information about the upcoming
Census and how the library will be a Questionnaire Center and
helping to promote the importance of an accurate count so
Tulare can receive more resources to help its residents.
o A Grant writing workshop was hosted by the Library on January
11th and a special expert gave the presentation. Librarian
Roache will also oversee the second part of the workshop in
the Library’s computer lab.
• Follow-up Discussion (Edge & Data)
o Teens on Board Member Gutierrez thought a
bookmobile would help to get books to more kids and
teens
o Board Member Lippincott mentioned a program where
parents of new babies would receive a library card kit
at the hospital; with card information and maybe a
small book. Librarian Roache said that Library
Foundations often set programs like this up.
o Board Member Lippincott also mentioned a Writer’s
Club—for all ages---bring in a special speaker?
o Board Members Lippincott & DeMuth suggested that
having one later night a week might bring in people
who usually do not have time.
o Board Member DeMuth suggested a “pop culture”
program.
• Suggestions from the Board: Board Member Lippincott
suggested adding more activities for Adults for the Summer
Reading Kickoff (June 13th)and the use of Surveys, like Survey
Monkey, to help get feedback from the community.
