TUSCALOOSA CITY COUNCIL MEETING SYNOPSIS Tuesday, April 15, 2025 CONVENED: 6:00 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT Mayor Walt Maddox President Pro Tem Tyner Councilmembers Howard, Crow, Busby, Faile and Lanier ABSENT Councilmember Wilson BUSINESS CONDUCTED: All votes are unanimous unless otherwise indicated. Approved minutes of previous meeting (Ty/H) PROCLAMATIONS AND STATEMENTS BY MAYOR AND COUNCIL Mayor Maddox congratulated Councilmember Lanier and the City Council on the grand opening of Springbrook Park. Mayor Maddox presented a proclamation proclaiming the week of April 21-25, 2025 as “National Community Development Week.” Mayor Maddox presented a proclamation proclaiming the month of April 2025 to be “National Healthy Homes Month.” Councilmember Faile announced that he will be at Jack’s on Saturday. AGENDA ITEM COMMENTS BY CITIZENS UNFINISHED BUSINESS Withdrew the resolution revoking the business license of Skinner Transportation Service located at 1290 Zack Drive, Northport, AL (OCA-24-1231)(tabled on 10/15/2024). (Ty/H) CONSENT AGENDA Approved items “a through f” on the consent agenda. (L/H) PUBLIC HEARINGS Ordered demolition of the structure at 512 Hargrove Road East (tabled on 10/15/2024). (H/C; Virgil Williams with UD- Inspections gave a departmental report. The property owner was not present to answer questions from the Council. No one spoke in favor or in opposition to the demolition). Adopted Ordinance No. 9610 by adopting zoning amendment no. 3 rezoning approximately 0.5 acres located at 6700 31st Street from SFR-2 to SFR-4 (OCA-25-0289/Z-06-25). (L/Ty; Zach Ponds with UD-Planning gave a departmental report. The applicant’s representative was present to answer questions from the Council. No one spoke for or against the rezoning). Approved the ABC application of The Curry Kitchen LLC for an alcohol license at The Curry Kitchen; 3799 McFarland Blvd E, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405. (Antonius Mills with A&F- Revenue and Officer Champion gave a departmental report. The applicant was present to answer questions from the Council).  25-019 Restaurant Retail Liquor (Ty/L) RESOLUTIONS AND ORDINANCES NOT OF A GENERAL NATURE OR PERMANENT OPERATION Authorized the purchase of equipment, supplies, or services from Advanced Mower Inc.; total: $19,203.45 (Lawn Mower with accessories; CFG). (L/B) Authorized the Mayor to execute a reimbursable agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) for the relocation of utility facilities regarding the resurfacing and signal backplates on SR-215 from SR-7 (US-11/Skyland Blvd) to 10th Avenue (OCA-25-0385/ Project No. STPAA-FMGR-HSIP-0215(508)). (B/C) Authorized a professional services agreement with the University of Alabama (OCA-25-0346). (L/B) Authorized a disbursement from district 2 improvement funds for Stars Academy Teacher Appreciation Week; total: $500.00 (OCA-25-0416). (Ty/B) Introduced amendment no. 7 to the Zoning Ordinance of Tuscaloosa amending sections 25-101, 25- 105 and 25-107 pertaining to restaurant, quick serve and drive through facilities (OCA-25-0383). (C/Ty) Adopted Ordinance No. 9611 Authorized amendment no. 9 to the fiscal year 2025 general fund budget (OCA-24-0951) . (H/TY) OTHER MATTERS BROUGHT BEFORE THE COUNCIL Addison Phelps, Mia Dreiling, and Nathan Wallace presented a project for their University of Alabama Honors College course to the Council regarding concerns of climate change and plastic bag pollution in the city. POLICY IMPLEMENTATION BY MAYOR: “Subject to the exercise of mayoral veto on ordinances of a general nature or permanent operation, all applicable departments are hereby ordered to otherwise implement council policy this date enacted.” ADJOURNED 6:27 p.m. (Ty/H) Brandy P.
