This implementation would require the creation of two positions (Court Referral Officer and Monitoring Specialist) and additional supplies and resources. The State contract, along with the collection of required fees will result in this program being cost neutral. Safety Date: 06/10/2024 Council Presentation on: 06/24/2024 Office of the City Attorney Suspension of Rules: No RESOLUTION RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CREATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR PARKING TICKETS PROGRAM (OCA-25-0726) WHEREAS, the Tuscaloosa City Council recognizes and determines that provision of school supplies for students serves a valid and important public purpose and promotes the prosperity and general welfare of the community; and, WHEREAS, pursuant to Alabama Code Section 16-13-36 the Tuscaloosa City Board of Education is authorized to receive appropriations from the City of Tuscaloosa in support of its schools; and, WHEREAS, the Tuscaloosa City Council further determines that accepting school supplies in lieu of monetary payment for the satisfaction of overtime parking tickets serves a valid and important public purpose and promotes the prosperity, contentment, and general welfare of the community. NOW, THEREFORE, IN CONSIDERATION OF THE ABOVE DETERMINATIONS, THE CITY COUNCIL RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: 1. That there is hereby created a School Supplies for Parking Tickets Program (hereinafter, "the Program"), whereby school supplies may be accepted in lieu of monetary payment for overtime parking citations. 2. That the Program time period shall be from July 7, 2025 through August 1, 2025. 3. That school supplies donated to the Program valued at $10 or greater shall satisfy one (1) $19 overtime parking ticket; that school supplies donated to the Program valued at $20 or greater shall satisfy two (2) $19 overtime parking tickets; and so on. 4. That City staff is authorized and directed to promulgate and advertise a list of acceptable school supplies and assigned values. 5, That all supplies received within the established time period shall be donated to the Tuscaloosa City Board of Education and thereafter distributed to students at the Board's discretion. 3 FUNDING REQUIRED: Yes No COUNCIL ACTION Resolution Ordinance Introduced Passed 2nd Reading Unanimous Failed Tabled By: Amended Chief Financial Officer Comments: 4
