Roll Call. Introduction of new Advisory Boardmember Emily Schuebaum Swear in of new Advisory Boardmember. Appointment of TBID Vice Chair: A motion was made by Chair Mehta to appoint Boardmember Maharaj as new Vice Chair All in favor: Yes (Chair Mehta, Grunt, Maharaj) CHANGES TO AGENDA 1. Introduction of new advisory board member Emily Schuebaum was postponed until the next Tourism Business Improvement District meeting. 2. Renewal of California Welcome Center annual contract was added as a discussion and potential action item. PRESENTATIONS 3. Copper Mountain College - Development of a Hospitality Program Copper Mountain College Hospitality Program Details BUSINESS 4. Approval of TBID Meeting Minutes for September 5, 2019 A Motion to approve the TBID Meeting Minutes for September 5, 2019 was made by Chair Mehta and seconded by Vice Chair Maharaj. An All in favor vote: Yes - Grunt, Maharaj, Mehta. 5. 4th Quarter Transient Occupancy Tax and TBID Revenue Results - Review Director of Marketing Breanne Dusastre shared the Q4 TOT and TBID results, showing both results are up 5.4% compared to the same quarter last year. Dusastre also shared the year-end results which show TOT is up 4.26% compared to last year, marking the 6th consecutive year of growth for the City of Twentynine Palms. Year-end TBID revenue is up 1.9% compared to last year. 2017-18 TOT TBID Results 6. Visit 29 Palms Update - Presentation by TBID Director of Marketing Breanne Dusastre. Director of Marketing Dusastre shared a recap of all the sponsored events that took place in September and October, sharing feedback from the hospitality community as to which events had the greatest impact on room demand. Dusastre also highlighted the marketing programs and campaigns that were executed via digital and Page 3 of 15 Twentynine Palms Tourism Business Improvement District Meeting November 14, 2019 print media over the last two months, plus an action plan for what’s in the works for the rest of November and December. Visit 29 Palms Board Meeting Presentation - November 14 2019 7. JNS Next - Presentation by Andrew Portener JNS Next Senior Digital Manager Andrew Portener shared with the advisory board the results of the digital marketing campaigns for the months of September and October, along with highlights of the working being done to continuously improve the search engine optimization of the Visit29.org website. JNS Next Presentation - November 14 2019 PUBLIC COMMENTS DISCUSSION AND POTENTIAL ACTION ITEMS 8. Broadcast Media Director of Marketing Dusastre and JNS Next Digital Manager Portener shared media kits and pricing for internet radio advertising campaigns with iHeart Radio, Pandora, and Spotify, making the recommendation of starting with iHeart Radio as they will provide the most value given the current broadcast budget. Chair Mehta made the recommendation to plan this internet radio campaign for the spring, in and around the time of the Coachella and Stagecoach Festivals, and asked for a more detailed report from iHeart to identify trends in monthly listeners on the platform. 9. Partner Program Development Director of Marketing Dusastre shared a preliminary outline of partner benefits for the Visit 29 Palms partner program, recommending that the benefits focus primarily on digital media. The recommendation and feedback from the Advisory Board is to make this partner program accessible on a month-to-month or quarterly basis for local businesses, rather than annual. The Advisory Board encouraged Dusastre to continue her research, specifically regarding pricing, and to look to launch the program in 2020. Visit 29 Palms Partner Benefits - 11-14-19 Draft 10. Visit 29 Palms Merchandise for Visitor Center Director of Marketing Dusastre discussed the option of ordering branded Visit 29 Palms t-shirts for sale in the Visitor Center and shared the pricing details from the three quotes she obtained. The Advisory Board’s recommendation is to avoid purchasing a large inventory and look for a design that incorporates Joshua Tree National Park in addition to featuring the Visit 29 Palms logo. 11. Travel Industry Conventions and Consumer Trade Shows On behalf of the Desert Region, the Greater Palm Springs CVB will be participating at the Travel and Adventure Show in Boston and Chicago in 2020 and has extended opportunities to its partners to participate in the booth, contribute to prize giveaways and ship brochures for distribution. Director of Marketing Dusastre has confirmed Visit 29 Palms will contribute a prize for the giveaway baskets and will be shipping brochures for distribution in the booth. Dusastre also shared with the Advisory Board the dates and information for Visit California’s 2020 Outlook Forum and was asked by Chair Mehta to inquire into what, if any, opportunity there would be for Visit 29 Palms at this event. This spot will be a :30 second spot and feature three (3) variations. This spot will be used for the Internet Radio Campaign in association with iHeart Media and the variations will be based on the geographic location the radio spot will be heard. Script and voice actor will be provided by Visit 29 Palms. JNS Next can help facilitate the music track or can be provided by Visit 29 Palms. Option A: Radio Station $350 one-time Option B: Private Producer $1,150 one-time JNS Next is recommending utilizing our Radio Station partner to help produce the spot at a lower rate. Although the final spot will not run on these terrestrial radio stations, JNS Next’s relationship with the station has secured this rate. The Private Producer is a contracted vendor for JNS Next. Although they produce high quality products, due to the price comparison we would not recommend using them for this project.
