Town of University Park Council Committee on Police, Traffic and Public Safety Wednesday, March 17, 2021 Meeting notes Committee members present: Joel Biermann, Ward 1; Joe Schultz, Ward 2; Linda Verrill, Ward 4; Martha Wells, Ward 6; Roland Stephen, Ward 7 The meeting (via Zoom) was called to order at 7:30 p.m. 1. Traffic and Streets Proposal/recommendations for FY22 Budget. Discussion and revision of a draft proposal to the Mayor and Council that would recommend inclusion in the FY2022 budget sufficient funding for projects to alter street geometry at several sites: 40th Ave north of Wells Run; Underwood at Adelphi Rd.; Wells Parkway at Eversfield; the northern section of Pineway. 2. Updates The Town's traffic monitoring equipment is still not repaired. The Committee discussed the possibility of adding funds to the FY22 budget to buy new equipment. Mayor Carey and Town staff are working on organizing meetings with Sen. Pinsky and Dels. Healey, Washington, and Williams. CM Stephen and CM Wells requested that Chief Baker update the Committee on the status of speed cameras and the possibility of another joint enforcement action on perimeter roads. CM Stephen suggested that at some point the Committee should review the traffic pattern especially in the northeast section of town, because the closure of Queens Chapel Road has had the effect of shunting traffic bound for College Park exclusively onto Pineway. The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 p.m. Submitted by Joe Schultz, Chair
