Meeting Notes
1. Call to Order
Present: Members: Councilmembers Wells (Chair), Biermann, Gathercole, Morgan,
McGaughey
Staff Liaison: Police Chief Baker
Agenda:
1. On-going business
a. Police
i. Report from Chief Baker
1. Speed Camera Update: Cameras are working.
Statistics indicate a drop in number of tickets on East-
West Highway since September, and an increase on
Adelphi since September. Member Biermann asked the
Chief to get additional statistics broken down by day and
time if possible.
b. Public Safety:
i. Pedestrian safety at East-West Hwy and Adelphi Road
(consider recommending stronger “No Right Turn on Red”
restrictions on this intersection.)
The Committee voted to send a recommendation to the Council
on this matter, and to request a meeting with County
Councilmembers Glaros and Taveras, and City of Hyattsville to
review this issue.
ii. Reporting of non-working lights, walk signals, and other sign
issues.
A member asked about how we should report non-working
traffic lights, walk signals and other sign issues. These should
be reported to the Town Administrator who will see that they are
forwarded to the appropriate agency.
c. Traffic
i. Review of Parking restrictions throughout UP with
recommendations for changes (map attached)
Mr. Beall went through some of the changes recommended,
including no-parking on the northwest side of Underwood in the
3900 block due to the new delineators, and some other minor
areas to provide sufficient space for the trash packers and other
large vehicles to maneuver. These were sent to Council for
action.
ii. Policy on traffic control devices: Committee members to
provide areas of concern for discussion
Discussion was held about this ordinance, but no decisions
were made. The matter was continued for further
discussion at the February meeting.
1. Develop recommendations and prioritize
iii. streets proposal/recommendations for FY22 budget.
