MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING
URBANA PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSION

1. CALL TO ORDER, ROLL CALL AND DECLARATION OF QUORUM
The Urbana Public Arts Commission was called to order at 4:35 p.m. by Ms.
Sammann. Ms. Reid took roll and a quorum was declared present.
2. CHANGES TO AGENDA
There were none.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
The minutes of the November 14, 2017 meeting were reviewed by the Commission.
With no changes proposed, Ms. Sammann made a motion to approve the minutes.
Ms. Snyder seconded the motion. All Commission members present were in favor
of approval, and the minutes were unanimously approved as presented.

5. COMMUNICATIONS

Presentation by 2016 Arts Grant Recipient: Brenda Koenig, CU Folk and Roots
Ms. Sammann introduced Brenda Koenig, former co-chair of the CU Folk & Roots Festival.
Ms. Koenig expressed her gratitude for the grant received. She gave a slide-show presentation
on their event that took place November 3-5, 2016 in downtown Urbana. The festival included
over 80 events, workshops, jams, dances, storytelling sessions, and sing-a-long events for all
ages. There were over 1,400 people in attendance. At the conclusion of the report, questions
and comments were heard.
Presentation by 2017 Arts Grant Recipient: Rob Krumm, CU Folk and Roots
Ms. Sammann introduced Rob Krumm, member of the CU Folk and Roots Steering Committee.
He gave a slide-show presentation on the 9th annual CU Folk and Roots Festival that took place
November 2-4, 2017 in downtown Urbana. The festival included over 80 participatory events,
workshops, jam sessions, dance lessons, storytelling sessions, and sing-a-long events. There
were over 1,750 people in attendance. He stated that next year’s Folk & Roots Festival would
be moved into October to avoid any event conflicts with the University. At the conclusion of
the report, questions and comments were heard.
Presentation by Staff: Monthly Progress Report
Ms. Storm presented the City staff’s monthly progress report to the Commission, outlining
projects in process, recent requests and recommendations from the public, staff activities,
and upcoming events.
Following the monthly progress report, Ms. Storm introduced Public Arts Intern, Samantha
Schrage. Ms. Schrage gave a final report on the numerous things she accomplished during
her internship with the City.

There were none.
9. ADJOURNMENT
Ms. Sammann made a motion that the meeting be adjourned. Ms. Jones seconded the motion.
With no further business, Ms. Sammann declared the meeting adjourned at 5:12 p.m.
