URBANA ARTS AND CULTURE COMMISSION

1. CALL TO ORDER, ROLL CALL AND DECLARATION OF QUORUM
The Urbana Arts and Culture Commission was called to order at 4:32 p.m. by Ms.
Sammann. Ms. Reid took roll and a quorum was declared present.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
The minutes of the December 11, 2018 meeting were reviewed by the Commission.
With no changes proposed, Ms. Sammann made a motion to approve the minutes.
Ms. Snyder seconded the motion. All Commission members present were in favor of
approval, and the minutes were unanimously approved as presented.
3. CHANGES TO AGENDA
Ms. Sammann announced that Rob Krumm of the Folk and Roots Festival would be
presenting at the meeting.
Ms. Storm then took a moment to recognize the newest Commission member, Stacey
Robinson. Mr. Robinson greeted the Commission and gave a brief background on
himself.

5. PRESENTATIONS
Presentation by Staff: Monthly Progress Report
Ms. Storm presented the City staff’s monthly progress report to the Commission, outlining
projects in process, recent requests and recommendations from the public, staff activities, and
upcoming events.
Partner Presentation: Celeste Choate, Urbana Free Library
Ms. Sammann introduced this agenda item. Celeste Choate, Executive Director of the Urbana
presented information regarding the library’s programming, new art materials in circulation, and
partnership efforts.
Presentation by 2018 Grant Presentation: Rob Krumm, CU Folk and Roots
Ms. Sammann introduced Rob Krumm, member of the CU Folk and Roots Steering Committee. He
gave a slide-show presentation on the 10th annual CU Folk and Roots Festival that took place
October 18-20, 2018 in downtown Urbana and Krannert Center. The festival included over 80
participatory events, performances, dances, hands on workshops, storytelling, performers for kids of
all ages, jam sessions, dance lessons, puppets and more. All events were free and there were over
1,650 people in attendance. Mr. Krumm thanked the Commission for the grant received. At the
conclusion of the report, questions and comments were heard.
Review of Urbana Arts Grants Tier III Timeline and Jury Process
Ms. Sammann introduced this agenda item. Ms. Storm stated that they would be reviewing the
timeline that was sent via email. She stated that since she had not heard feedback from all the
Commission members, she would reopen the opportunity to provide feedback at the meeting.
A brief discussion between members of the Staff and Commission ensued. Following
discussion, Ms. Storm stated that the special meeting would take place on February 26, 2019
and that she would send out confirmation of the exact time and location.
6. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ms. Hedlund announced that members of the University School of Music Faculty and the
Symphony would be having a dinner concert on Feb 12th at Silvercreek Restaurant to support
the schools.
8. ADJOURNMENT
Ms. Sammann made a motion that the meeting be adjourned. Mr. Jakobsson seconded
the motion. With no further business, Ms. Sammann declared the meeting adjourned at 6:01
pm.
