Meeting Minutes Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission Date: Tuesday, February 19, 2013 Time: 7:00 p.m. Place: City Council Chambers, City of Urbana, 400 S. Vine Street, Urbana, IL Members Present: Gary Cziko, Brandon Bowersox-Johnson, Susan Jones, Nadine Schmitz, Audrey Ishii, Cynthia Hoyle, Morgan Johnston Staff Present: Brad Bennett Members Absent: Michele Guerra 1. CALL TO ORDER, ROLL CALL, AND DECLARATION OF QUORUM Bowersox-Johnson called the meeting to order and roll called was taken by a verbal record. There was a quorum present. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Hoyle moved to approve the agenda; Cziko seconded. Motion carried. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING Bowersox-Johnson asked that the minutes from the December 18, 2012 meeting be approved. Bennett moved to approve the minutes; Schmitz seconded. Motion carried. 4. PUBLIC INPUT There was no public input. 5. OLD BUSINESS There was no old business. 6. NEW BUSINESS a) Bike Lanes and Sharrow Presentation – Gary Cziko This presentation is available at effectivebikelane.notlong.com. Discussion ensued. b) Main Street Bike Lane Design – Cedar to Dodson – Gale Jamison Gale Jamison presented the plans for the Main Street bike lane design. Clark Dietz is working on the design for these projects. There are three separate projects: 1. Signal modification at Race Street and Main Street, funded by a grant from Highway Safety Improvement Project. Plans are to bid this project in April. 2. Main Street from Cedar Street to Vine Street, funded by local TIF money. Plans are to bid this project in April. 3. Main Street from Grove Street to Dewey Street, funded by a grant from Illinois Transportation Enhancement Project. This has been submitted to IDOT for approval.  These projects should be completed by Thanksgiving 2013. Questions about these projects should be directed to Gale Jamison at 217.384.2343. Discussion ensued. c) SRTS Grant and Bicycle Facilities Project – Bike Lanes and Share Bike/Parking Lanes – Brad Bennett There was no time to discuss this item. It will appear on the April 16, 2013 agenda. 7. ANNOUNCEMENTS Hoyle announced that May is National Bike Month. Events being planned are Bike to Work Day on May 1, 2013; Bike to School Day on May 8, 2013; Traffic Skills on May 4, 2013; Bike Rodeo on May 18, 2013 at Market at the Square; Bike to Market and Bike to Worship (dates TBA). Cziko announced that a Cycling Savvy class is planned for April 25, 2013. Rebecca Bird announced that the Bicycle Diversion Program with the Urbana Police Department is moving along to be implemented for spring and fall classes. 8. FUTURE TOPICS No future topics were discussed. 9. ADJOURNMENT Bowersox-Johnson adjourned the meeting at 8:50 p.m.
