Smyth, City Clerk URBANA CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING Tuesday May 29, 2018 The City Council of the City of Urbana, Illinois, met in special session Tuesday May 29, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Urbana City Building. Call to Order and Roll Call There being a quorum present, Mayor Marlin called the meeting of the Urbana City Council to order 7:02 p.m. II. Public Input Jennifer Putman invited council members and the mayor as well as audience members to an event led by Moms Demand Action and area high school students to March for Our Lives events Friday June 1 and Saturday June 2. The events are part of National Gun Violence Awareness Day (Friday) and will be at the Alma Mater statute at the University of Illinois at 12:30pm. Ms. Putman explained the significance of the color orange. On Saturday, at 4:30pm at Westside Park, high school students will lead events celebrating what our community can do to keep ourselves safe from gun violence. She thanked the mayor for her proclamation noting June 1 as National Gun Awareness Day. III. New Business a. Mayoral Staff Appointment 1. City Administrator – Carol Mitten Page 1 of 2  Mayor Marlin summarized her memo to council recommending the appointment of Carol J. Mitten as City Administrator. Mayor Marlin noted Ms. Mitten’s work experience and educational background. Mayor Marlin noted that Ms. Mitten will begin work Monday June 4 and needs to be appointed for the remainder of the fiscal year 2018 and to be appointed for FY19 as well. City Council Member Dennis Robert moved approval of the appointment of Carol Mitten for the period June 4 through June 30, 2018, seconded by CCM Jakobsson. The motion passed by unanimous voice vote. CCM Jakobsson made a motion approving the appointment of Carol Mitten for FY19, July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019. The motion was seconded by CCM Brown and passed by unanimous voice vote. IV. Adjournment There being no further business to come before the City Council, Mayor Marlin declared the meeting adjourned at 7:08 p.m. Charles A.
