Communications Staff Report Scott Tess gave the monthly Staff Report which included an update on Ameren’s opportunity to retrofit existing outdoor lighting with more energy efficient bulbs via end of year funds. He reported that Public Works staff would need to collect relevant street light data, however Public Works does not have enough staff to undertake this task. Ensuring that public safety is of utmost importance, hence it take priority over doing inventory. Chair Stacy Gloss asked if this would be a good opportunity to help do the inventory, Todd Rusk responded that this process of inventorying lights is more involved than just counting streetlights and students cannot easily take on this project. Additionally, Mr. Tess reported on the results of Staff’s investigation into a recent Ameren statement on rate changes. It was concluded that fluctuations downward outweigh the upward fluctuations, households enrolled in municipal electric aggregation won’t enjoy Ameren electric supply price reductions. Updates on Solar Urbana-Champaign 3.0 surpassing the 500kw install capacity, the City’s tentative agreement on the lease option for the landfill solar development, the development of a draft for a Sustainable Water Management Plan to be completed in 2019, Staff sharing experiences on developing 1 APPROVED our local solar market on a US EPA webinar, work with the University of Illinois Extension Service and U-Cycle’s annual America Recycles Day event were given.
