Sustainability Advisory Commission Meeting

APPROVED CITY OF URBANA, ILLINOIS SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY COMMISSION Council Chambers, Urbana City Building Tuesday, September 3, 2019 Commissioners Present: Stacy Gloss, Dustin Allred, Thomas Delgado, Andrew Stumpf, Morgan White, Maddy Garbacz Commissioners Absent: Megan McGinty, Tesfaye Wolde-Medhin Staff Present: Scott Tess, Amanda Plotner Call to Order, Roll Call, and Declaration of Quorum Chairperson Stacy Gloss called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. Amanda Plotner called the roll and a quorum was present. Approval of Minutes Andrew Stumpf motioned for the approval of the minutes from the 08/06/19 meeting. Morgan White seconded the motion. The minutes were approved. Changes to the Agenda There were no changes or additions to the agenda. Public Input There was no public input Staff Report Scott Tess provided an update that Solar Urbana Champaign is wrapping up its last month for proposals, with 700kw of proposals written. He also updated that the City and SunPower landfill solar project has been awarded incentives to build low-income community solar project. Mr. Tess shared that the City received one bid for the fiber optic installation for the Landscape Recycling Center ticket booth and will need to re-evaluate bid specifications. Additionally, Mr. Tess share that the Arbor Division will be purchasing a compost spreader with partial grant funding from the Lumpkin Family Foundation. Staff participated at the recent CURES Connections Workshop within the University of Illinois System. Mr. Tess shared recycling data from the recently completed annual Sweetcorn Festival. Ms. Gloss shared that she volunteered at the U-Cycle tent and encouraged all commission members to volunteer next year. 1  APPROVED U-Cycle has advertised in the Daily Illini for the beginning of the semester. Staff is also working with the Champaign County Environmental Stewards for a hazardous waste collection event for Champaign County residents. The next meeting is scheduled for October 1 at 7:00 pm in the Council Chambers at the Urbana City Building. Discussion of Commission priorities survey results The results from the recently completed survey for commission members was shared and discussed. Dustin Allred asked that planning staff be invited to come to an upcoming meeting to help identify the commission’s areas of concern based on the results. Powerpoint is attached. University of Illinois submitted the Bicycle Friendly University renewal application.
