Sustainability Advisory Commission Meeting

APPROVED CITY OF URBANA, ILLINOIS SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY COMMISSION Council Chambers, Urbana City Building Tuesday, October 1, 2019 Commissioners Present: Stacy Gloss, Dustin Allred, Thomas Delgado, Andrew Stumpf, Morgan White Commissioners Absent: Megan McGinty, Tesfaye Wolde-Medhin, Maddy Garbacz Staff Present: Scott Tess, Amanda Plotner Call to Order, Roll Call, and Declaration of Quorum Chairperson Stacy Gloss called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. Amanda Plotner called the roll and a quorum was present. Approval of Minutes Morgan White motioned for the approval of the minutes from the 09/03/19 meeting. Andrew Stumpf seconded the motion. The minutes were approved. Changes to the Agenda There were no changes or additions to the agenda. Public Input There was no public input Staff Report Scott Tess updated the commission that Solar Urbana-Champaign applications are officially closed with approximately 237kw of capacity. Mr. Tess shared that the Urbana Free Library started a new Seed Lending Library program which staff is providing promotional support for. A discussion ensued about Commission members’ participation, if needed. Additionally, Mr. Tess reported that staff is participating as a local partner in the University of Illinois Institute for Sustainability, Energy and the Environment capstone course for students to work on. Staff can provide support and mentorship. U-Cycle is collaborating with the City of Champaign and Champaign County for the electronics recycling event and the Illinois EPA-sponsored household hazardous waste event to be held on two (2) Saturdays in October. Mr. Tess also shared that staff attended a “Recycling in Transition” workshop in Springfield, where recycling coordinators around the state met to discuss the state of recycling in Illinois since the China ban took effect. 1  APPROVED The next meeting is scheduled for November 5 at 7:00 pm in the Executive Conference Room at the Urbana City Building. Unfinished Business The floor was opened up to discuss SAC priorities and topics for the Commission to focus on. It was identified that Brandon Boys from the City’s Community Development Department would be invited to discuss TIFF and Economic Development in the City.
