URBANA PUBLIC TELEVISION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES Date: September 11, 2015 Place: Urbana City Council Chambers 400 S. Vine Street, Urbana, IL Members Present: Peter Folk; Dale Sinder; Dana Mancuso; Andrew Wadsworth; Carol Inskeep Members Absent: Marie Polk; Chris Fuller Staff Present: Jason Liggett; Jake Schumacher I. CALL TO ORDER Commissioner Sinder called the meeting to order at 12:07pm. II. ROLL CALL Attendance was noted. Commissioners Polk and Fuller had notified staff they would not be able to make the meeting. III. MODIFICATIONS TO AND APPROVAL OF AGENDA Agenda was approved as it stood. IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the March 13, 2015 meeting were unanimously approved. V. CORRESPONDENCE There was no correspondence to the Commission the past two quarters. VI. STAFF REPORT UPTV producer Jacob Bernard received a national Hometown Media aware from the Alliance for Community Media for his work on transforming WPGU’s Illini Drive radio sports program into the TV show airing on UPTV, and was subsequently featured in a News- Gazette article. Urbana High School’s broadcasting program was named a Select School by the NHS Network for the second straight year. CU One- to-One mentoring program named UPTV and Production Coordinator Jason Liggett as Partner of the Year for our collaboration Page 1 of 3  producing various video projects with them. All of UPTV’s awards are currently on display in the glass case in the City Building lobby. Staff and volunteers Dale Sinder and Linda Turnbull filmed performances on the One Community Together state at this year’s Sweetcorn Festival. Camera Operator Jordan Fogerson has left UPTV; she will be missed. To fill the void we have hired Yosef Kash, a Parkland College graduate and experienced videographer. We welcome him. Jason and Jake staffed a UPTV booth once again at the UI Volunteer Fair, which usually nets the station a few good prospects. At next week’s Committee of the Whole, UPTV will be seeking approval to create a UPTV Community Fund, which would allow members of the public to support the work of UPTV with financial contributions. We have reached out to iTV3 concerning carriage of PEG channels. No word yet. The CAP Act has been reintroduced in Congress. American Community Television is hoping to garner Representative Kirk as a co-sponsor. Our 20th birthday will be celebrated as part of the annual membership meeting and open house to be held in December. A highlights reel from the past two quarters was shown. VII. AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION There was none. VIII. UNFINISHED BUSINESS There has been no progress on the revised Policy and Procedures since the last meeting. IX. NEW BUSINESS Equipment purchases included television monitors, studio lighting, a robotic camera used to record public meetings and public-access programs, an audio distribution amp, and a hand- held mike. X. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Page 2 of 3  Commissioner Mancuso thanked UPTV for its work on behalf of the Urbana Park District. XI. SET THE NEXT MEETING DATE AND ADJOURNMENT The next regular meeting was announced for Friday December 11 at 12 noon in the Urbana City Council Chambers.
