PREPARED FOR: Council MEETING DATE: March 30, 2022 STAFF CONTACT: Caitlin Visel MEETING TYPE: Special City Visel, Opera House Manager Council DEPARTMENT/GROUP:Opera MEETING: Special City Council - Mar 30 2022 BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Uvalde Grand Opera House was approached last spring by donors (who wish to remain anonymous) interested in helping the Opera House with several special projects. These projects include: rebuilding and weatherproofing the 6 main roof dormers; painting the exterior; replacing the carpet in the auditorium and balcony; and replacing the ornamental stonework on the front gable. Ira West specializes in historic building restoration and renovation in Del Rio, TX. We have been working with Mr. West over the last year to find contractors and get bids in place for our donor to approve. Mr. West's roofing contact is the same roofing company that will be repairing the Turret Roof (approved by Council 3/8/22). The donors will pay City of Uvalde as we are billed monthly by Frontera Construction (Ira West). City will pay invoices from Frontera. The contract is for Frontera Construction to oversee (act as General Contractor) for the following projects: roof repairs (turret and main dormers), carpet replacement, exterior painting including minor windowsill repairs as needed. Change orders will be added once bids are received/ finalized for ornamental stonework and upon choosing carpeting.
