Board members reviewed the meeting minutes from February 1, 2022. 3. NEW BUSINESS 3.A. Discuss tourism and marketing. Susan Anderson, Director of Planning and Development discussed Hotel-Motel Tax with the board. The funds are very restrictive in the way it is written and the way hotel lobbying people interpret it. Hotel, motel, B&B, or anything you rent out for lodging is considered hotel-motel tax. There really is not a way to track for B&B. In a residential neighborhood, it should be managed by the owner. In the downtown district, it can be operated by a manager, the owner does not need to live on site. Things hotel-motel tax can be spent on: visitors center convention centers, building one maintain one, etc. You can also spend on any advertising and solicitation. Funds can also be used to pay for arts, not more than 15% of the money brought in for hotel-motel tax can be used for Page 1 3 of 2 4 the arts. Also used for historic preservation. One way our CVB program preserves historic buildings is they provide façade grants for the outside of downtown buildings. Mrs. Anderson asked board members where they go to get away: Juan Gonzales, Board Member District 2 stated his go to get away is to Corpus Christi to visit his daughter. Rosemberg Risa, Board Member District 1 stated he goes whereever his grandson wants to go. Las year they took a family trip to Nebraska to visit trains and train tracks. Jerrell Baker, Board Member Mayoral Appointment stated that he likes to visit any historic place. He grew up in Sacramento and likes to window shop. Ramon Velos Board Member District 5 stated his getaway is to New Mexico. He enjoys the museums, the window shopping, and the overall environment. Mrs. Anderson asked what would be an attraction for Uvalde? Mr. Velos stated that he would promote Garner State Park, also he feels that bringing musical artists to the FairPlex could bring more people to Uvalde. Also, birding is an attraction for Uvalde, how can we promote more? Possibly do several attractions for a biriding weekend. Board agreed that Garner Park, Birding, FairPlex, and Opera House should be promoted to attract more visitors to Uvalde. Discussed several ideas. Meeting adjourned at 1:00PM 4. ADJOURNMENT Board Chair City Secretary Page 2 4 of 2 4
