FINANCE COMMITTEE
JANUARY 14, 2013
VERONA CITY HALL
1. The meeting was called to order by William “Mac” McGilvray at 6:30 p.m.
2 Roll Call: William “Mac” McGilvray, Scott Manley, Steve Ritt. Also present: Jon
Hochkammer, Mayor; Brad Stiner, Alderperson; Bill Burns, City Administrator; Dave
Walker, Parks Director; Joe Giver, Fire Chief.
3. Approval of the 12/10/2012 Finance Committee Minutes: Motion by McGilvray,
seconded by Manley, to approve the 12/10/2012 Finance Committee Minutes. Motion
carried 3-0.
4. Payment of Bills: Motion by Ritt, seconded by McGilvray, to approve the payment of
bills in the amount of $1,369,017.24. Motion carried 3-0.
5. Payment of a Special Bill Run for 12/21/2012: Motion by Manley, seconded by Ritt, to
approve the payment of a special bill run for 12/21/2012 in the amount of $3,251,821.86.
Motion carried 3-0.
6. Payment of Out-of-Office Checks: Motion by Ritt, seconded by Manley, to approve the
payment of out-of-office checks in the amount of $4,002,667.74. Motion carried 3-0.
7. Awarding of Bids for the Construction of an Indoor Batting Cage Facility per the
Agreement with Verona Baseball, Inc.: Mr. Walker presented the bid results for the
construction of an indoor batting cage to be constructed near Stampfl Field. The
construction estimate is $74,464 which includes recommended bids from Cleary Building
in the amount of $47,524, Krantz Electric in the amount of $10,440, and Bethke Heating
in the amount of $4,300. Mr. Burns noted based on the updated construction cost
estimate, the annual payment under the agreement with Verona Baseball, Inc. would be
set at $8,905 during the initial ten-year term. The City will start the process for a State
Trust Fund Loan and that item will come before the Finance Committee and City Council
at a future meeting. Motion by McGilvray, seconded by Manley, to approve the
awarding of bids for an Indoor Batting Cage Facility as presented. Motion carried 3-0.
8. Purchase of a Replacement Fire Engine: Chief Giver presented a purchase agreement
with Pierce Manufacturing for the purchase of a Pierce Quantum Engine Pumper. The
final cost is $594,137 which reflects an early payments discount of $12,264. The final
cost also includes some additional costs and deductions including the installation of
radios and a mobile data computer and the addition of side light bars. The net additional
cost is $10,889. Motion by Ritt, seconded by Manley, to recommend that the Common
Council approve a purchase agreement with Pierce Manufacturing, Inc. for the purchase
of a Pierce Quantum Engine Pumper in the amount of $594,137. Motion carried 3-0.
9. Adjournment: Motion by Ritt, seconded by Manley, to adjourn the Finance Committee
Meeting at 6:46 p.m. Motion carried 3-0.
