City of Verona Finance Committee City Hall – 111 Lincoln Street Verona, WI 53593-1520 MINUTES FINANCE COMMITTEE July 30, 2018 The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Chad Kemp at 6:00 p.m. in Conference Room D110 Roll Call: Chairperson Chad Kemp and Alder Kate Cronin were present. Also present: City Administrator Jeff Mikorski, Finance Director Brian Lamers, Mayor Luke Diaz, Parks Director Dave Walker, Recreation Director and Public Works Director Theran Jacobson Discussion and Possible Action regarding approval of July 23, 2018 Finance Committee minutes: Motion was made by Cronin, seconded by Kemp to approve the July 23, 2018 Finance Committee minutes with no amendments. Motion carried 2-0. Discussion and Possible Action regarding 2019 Capital Budget and 5 Year Capital Plan: Parks Director Dave Walker went over the listing of capital projects for the Parks and Recreation budget for 2019 and the 5 year capital budget. A couple of the highlighted areas included $2,160,000 for the public works facility in 2021 and 2022, in 2019 a purchase of a new mini excavator, currently the parks rents one monthly in summer for approximately $2,600 a month and in 2019 a study on converting the old public works building into a recreation center with $750,000 for remodeling in 2022. It was discussed whether that should be considered or not and should be a discussion in the near future. Public Works Director Theran Jacobson went over the public works capital plan and the utility capital plans. A couple highlighted areas included where the public works facility in 2019 $500,000 for design and $8,640,000 for construction in the public works budget, water potion of $1,440,000, storm water portion of $720,000 and sewer portion of $1,440,000. In 2019 and 2020 included $2,500,000 to Verona Area School District for road improvements and in 2023 included $500,000 for an estimated demo cost of the old school. Jacobson went over the road project and equipment for all 4 budget areas. Jacobson informed the committee he has to add $6,000 to the 2019 budget for a Pan Mower and in 2020 $10,000 for a line painter. Adjournment: Motion was made by Cronin, seconded by Kemp, to adjourn the Finance Committee Meeting at 7:47 p.m. Motion carried 2-0.
