City of Verona Finance Committee City Hall – 111 Lincoln Street Verona, WI 53593-1520 MINUTES FINANCE COMMITTEE OCTOBER 9, 2023 The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Chad Kemp at 6:16 p.m. Roll Call: Chairperson Chad Kemp, Alder Mara Helmke and Alder Christine Posey were present. Also present: Mayor Luke Diaz, City Administrator Jamie Aulik, Finance Director Brian Lamers and EMS Chief Patrick Anderson Discussion and Possible Action regarding approval of October 3, 2023, Finance Committee minutes: Motion was made by Posey, seconded by Helmke to approve the October 3, 2023, Finance Committee minutes with no changes noted. Motion carried 3-0. Discussion and Possible Action regarding recommending to the City Council Resolution R-23- 029, Resolution Requesting Exemption from County Library Tax: Motion was made by Kemp, seconded by Helmke to recommend to the City Council approval of Resolution R-23-029, Approving Requesting Exemption from County Library Tax. Motion carried 3-0. Discussion and Possible Action regarding any updates or information on the 2024 Budget: EMS Chief Patrick Anderson explained to the Committee the need for the 2nd Deputy Chief position that is being requested. The 2nd Deputy Chief would be for operation and training. Part of this position would be focused on the training aspect with the new equipment that is getting purchased. For example, the Point-of-Care Ultrasound that the crew will need to be trained on. Anderson explained with the employee schedules and the PT employees that may only work a couple times a month this position would be important to move forward with the new technology training. He also explained the other duties of this position. Anderson talked about the increase in calls and the need for another ambulance crew in the future. This position will be part of that step to adding another ambulance crew. After further discussion the Committee agreed to include the position in the budget and the additional $41,000 towards fund balance. Lamers handed out the publication of the budget will everything included that was discussed at last Finance Committee and the EMS budget as recommended. Discussion and Possible Action regarding the payment of bills: Motion was made by Kemp, seconded by Helmke to approve the payment of bills totaling $880,179.71. Motion carried 3-0. www.ci.verona.wi.us Adjournment: Motion was made by Kemp, seconded by Helmke to adjourn the Finance Committee Meeting at 6:53 p.m. Motion carried 3-0.
