CITY OF VERONA MINUTES PARK, RECREATION & FORESTRY COMMISSION WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2014 1. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Janie Ritter at 7:00 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Present: Janie Ritter, Brad Stiner, Paul Schmidt, Heather Reekie, Mark Giesfeldt. Also present: Dave Walker, Parks Director, Casey Dudley, Recreation Director, Rocco Ceniti, 539 East View Rd. 3. Moved by Reekie, seconded by Giesfeldt, to approve the minutes of the January 15, 2014 meeting of the Park, Recreation, and Forestry Commission. Motion carried 5-0. 4. The Commission considered the General Development Plan for Murray Glen which is the final phase of multi-family development in the Prairie Oaks subdivision. The Plan was very similar to one approved in 2007 in that it contained a walking path but it did not contain a small private park space along the frontage of the pond. The Commission thought some improvements around the large pond would be a nice amenity and there was still plenty of public frontage to do it so they were supportive of the proposal. 5. Moved by Schmidt, seconded by Giesfeldt, to the Murray Glen General Development Plan and Parkland Dedication as presented with a portion of the fees collected to be used for aesthetic improvements to Outlot 3 (pond). Motion carried 5-0. 6. Moved by Ritter, seconded by Reekie, to approve a special event request by Rhapsody Arts Center to have their spring music recital at Harriet Park on Sunday, June 1. Motion carried 5-0. 7. Rocco Ceniti was at the meeting as a long-time resident and former Common Council member to discuss Fireman’s Park and the potential to eventually expand the park to include the Badger Mill Creek and surrounding natural area. Rocco stated that expanding the park would be a great asset to the community and had always been a goal of the Park Commission and he wanted to make sure that the current Commission felt the same way. All agreed it would be a welcome addition to the park system. 8. Moved by Stiner, seconded by Ritter, to adjourn. Motion carried 5-0. Time: 8:05 pm. Janie Ritter Chairperson
