CITY OF VERONA MINUTES PARK, RECREATION & FORESTRY COMMISSION WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20, 2019 1. The meeting was called to order by chairperson Mike Bare at 7:00 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Present: Mike Bare, Heather Reekie, Charlotte Jerney, Mark Giesfeldt. Excused: Paul Schmidt. Also present: Dave Walker, Parks Director; Casey Dudley, Recreation Director. 3. Moved by Reekie, seconded by Jerney, to approve the minutes of the January 16, 2019 meeting of the Park, Recreation, and Forestry Commission. Motion carried 4-0. 4. The Commission considered Change Orders #5 and #7 for the Fireman’s Park project. Change Order #5 included three credits for a total of $12,080. These credits were for less than anticipated excavation of the shelter and beach wall area as well as design changes to the parking lot. Change Order #7 was for an additional expense of $36,464 to add sidewalk along Bruce St for the entire frontage of the park. The engineers estimate for this work was $40,000 and funding was proposed to be included in the 2019 borrowing for bike and pedestrian improvements. 5. Moved by Bare, seconded by Giesfeldt, to approve Change Orders #5 and #7 for the Fireman’s Park project. Motion carried 4-0. 6. The Commission considered changes to the Park Reservation policy that would extend the waiting period for special event applications from 30 to 45 days. Dave Walker informed the members that the City Clerk had requested this change to provide consistency with the application process for special events requiring public safety review. The Commission had no issues with the change. 7. Moved by Giesfeldt, seconded by Jerney, to change the waiting period for special event applications from 30 days to 45 days. Motion carried 4-0. 8. The Commission considered three special event requests. The first was for the Mama Goose Memorial Run at Veterans Park on August 3, the second was for the Market Day Alzheimer’s Benefit at Harriet Park on September 21, and the third was for the Loop Pursuit Triathalon at Fireman’s Park on August 3. The Commission had no issues with the proposed events but did stipulate that the soccer field area at Fireman’s Park would not be available for use by the Loop Pursuit Triathalon due to it being newly seeded. 9. Moved by Reekie, seconded by Jerney, to approve three special event requests as proposed with the exception of the soccer field area at Fireman’s Park for the Loop Pursuit Triathalon. Motion carried 4-0. 10. Moved by Reekie, seconded by Jerney, to adjourn. Motion carried 4-0. Time: 8:00 p.m. Mike Bare Chairperson
