CITY OF VERONA MINUTES PARK, RECREATION & FORESTRY COMMISSION WEDNESDAY, MARCH 17, 2021 1. The meeting was called to order by chairperson Tyler Powers at 7:00 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Present: Tyler Powers, Mark Giesfeldt, Paul Schmidt, Heather Reekie, Charlotte Jerney. Also present: Dave Walker, Parks Director; Casey Dudley, Recreation Director; Tim Spencer, Verona Resident; Amy Fowler, Verona Resident. 3. Moved by Jerney, seconded by Schmidt, to approve the minutes of the February 17, 2021 meeting of the Park, Recreation, and Forestry Commission. Motion carried 5-0. 4. The Commission considered maintenance of the paved trail to be constructed along the Badger Mill Creek as part of the sewer interceptor project. Tim Spencer and Amy Fowler were in attendance and both voiced concerns over motorized vehicle traffic and winter plowing. They felt keeping both activities to a minimum would help keep a more natural setting and minimize impacts to the adjoining residences. Dave Walker added that for the near future the paved path would dead end to the north at the Ice Age Trail bridge which is not plowed or suitable for large equipment. It would likely not be an issue to forego winter maintenance on the path for a number of years. In consideration of the resident’s concerns the Commission decided that the path would not be plowed in the winter and summer maintenance traffic would be kept to a minimum. 5. Moved by Powers, seconded by Jerney, to not plow or salt the Badger Mill Creek path upon completion and keep seasonal vehicle traffic to a minimum. Motion carried 5-0. 6. The Commission considered bids for resurfacing tennis and basketball courts at five different parks. A total of four bids were received with the lowest being Sport Surface Pros in the amount of $60,000. The company had not done work in the City before but provided references which all gave good reviews so the Commission was comfortable awarding a contract. The work would include converting Harriet Park to four pickleball courts and be completed by July 2. 7. Moved by Giesfeldt, seconded by Jerney, to award a contract to Sport Surface Pros in the amount of $60,000 for tennis and basketball court repair and resurfacing. Motion carried 5-0. 8. The Commission considered a special event request by the Glacier Edge PTO for a color run fundraiser at Tollefson Park on May 26. The event was not held in 2020 due to COVID restrictions but had been held without issue for several years prior to that. 9. Moved by Schmidt, seconded by Reekie, to approve the Glacier Edge PTO event at Tollefson Park on May 26, 2021. Motion carried 5-0. 10. Moved by Jerney, seconded by Powers, to adjourn. Motion carried 5-0. Time: 7:35 p.m. Tyler Powers Chairperson
