CITY OF VERONA MINUTES PUBLIC SAFETY AD HOC COMMITTEE TASK FORCE MEETING OCTOBER 29, 2013 VERONA CITY HALL 111 LINCOLN STREET 1. The meeting was called to order by Heather Reekie at 4:04 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Chief Joe Giver, Chief Brian Myrland, Mike Goetz, Heather Reekie, Diane Smith, John Wickstrom. Absent (excused): Mayor Jon Hochkammer, Chief Bernie Coughlin, Scott Manley, Mac McGilvray, Delora Newton, Joleen Semmann. Others Present: Dale Yurs, Alderperson; Brad Stiner, Alderperson; Steve Gausman, Five Bugles Design; Bill Burns, City Administrator. 3. Approval of Minutes of the October 15, 2013 Public Safety Ad Hoc Committee No action was taken. 4. Update on the Space Needs Analysis and Schematic Design Process Steve Gausman provided on the schematic design process. Five Bugles has completed an updated space needs analysis based on input from Fire and EMS staff and have developed a conceptual bubble diagram for a proposed station. This concept includes a two-story 39,400 square foot Fire and EMS facility that would be located on the north of the site parallel to Verona Road. Based on initial discussions with staff, Five Bugles will review the concept and make adjustments. It was noted that the size of the facility may be able to be reduced somewhat as detailed designs are put together. An alternative bid is also being considered to include a basement for additional storage areas. Committee member also suggested looking at potential City and/or community use of the training room and exercise area. Other comments should be directed to Bill Burns who will forward them to Five Bugles. Five Bugles is planning to prepare additional floor plan and elevation information by the December 3 committee meeting. 5. Interviewing Firms for Construction Management Services The Committee viewed presentation and conducted interviews with the following construction management firms:  Kraus Anderson Construction  Tri-North Builders  Findorff Following the interviews the committee members discussed the proposals and it was the consensus of those present to recommend that Tri-North Builders be selected for the construction manager for the project. 6. Adjournment: Motion by Wickstrom, seconded by Smith, to adjourn the meeting at 7:39 p.m. Motion carried 6-0. Respectfully submitted, Bill Burns, City Administrator 2
