CITY OF VERONA PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE NOVEMBER 10, 2014 VERONA CITY HALL MINUTES 1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Yurs at 5:31 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Members Present: Heather Reekie, Evan Touchett, and Dale Yurs. Others Present: Bernie Coughlin, Police Chief; and Kami Scofield, City Clerk. 3. Approval of Minutes. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Yurs to approve the minutes from the October 27, 2014 meeting. Motion carried 3/0. 4. Discussion and possible action regarding an application for a Special Event Permit for the Jingle Bell Run/Walk to be held on Sunday, December 7, 2014. Chief Coughlin explained that this is a new event to the City of Verona. Ryan Richards was present representing the applicant, the Arthritis Foundation. The event has previously occurred in Madison but they have outgrown the location and chose to move to Verona. There will be no closing of any streets for the event but there will be some minor traffic control to ensure runners/walkers safely navigate busy intersections. The Committee would like residents directly along the route to be notified of the event as it is in residential area and new to Verona. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie to approve the Special Event contingent upon proper notification of residents along the run and walk route. Motion carried 3/0. 5. Discussion and possible action regarding Ordinance 14‐852 amending Section 13 of Chapter 1 of Title 10 of the City of Verona Code of Ordinances; Motor Vehicles and Traffic, Parking Prohibited During Certain Periods. Without objection this item was taken up prior to Item 4. Chief Coughlin explained that the ordinance prohibited parking on Basswood during school pick‐up and drop‐off hours and allowed parking at all other times. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Touchett to recommend that the Council Approve Ordinance 14‐852. Motion carried 3/0. 6. Adjournment.
