CITY OF VERONA PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE MAY 11, 2015 VERONA CITY HALL MINUTES 1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Yurs at 5:31 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Members Present: Evan Touchett, Heather Reekie (5:44 p.m.) and Dale Yurs. Others Present: Bernie Coughlin, Police Chief; and Kami Scofield, City Clerk. 3. Approval of Minutes. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Yurs to approve the minutes from the April 27, 2015 meeting. Motion carried 2/0. 4. Discussion and possible action regarding a Special Event Permit for the Hometown Rumble Car Show on Saturday, June 13th from Jim Bach of Bach Racecraft. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Yurs to recommend that the Common Council approve the Special Event Permit for the Hometown Rumble Car Show contingent upon providing the certificate of insurance for the event to City staff by June 5th. Motion carried 2/0. 5. Discussion and possible action regarding a Special Event Permit for the Wisconsin Triterium Triathlon on Sunday, June 7th from Ryan Hastings of Race Day Events, LLC. The applicant requested to withdraw this application at this time so some changes could be made. No action was taken on the item. 6. Discussion and possible action regarding a Temporary Class B Beer license for Hometown Days June 4th – June 7th from the Fitchburg‐Verona Rotary Club. Karl Curtis explained that originally, the intention was to not have a beer tent on Thursday evening but this has changed due to lack of participation in the alternative event. The Temporary Class B Beer License would be for Thursday‐ Sunday with the times as follows: Thursday to 11 p.m.; Friday 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.; Saturday 12 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie to recommend that the Common Council approve the Temporary Class B License for Hometown Days contingent upon Chief Coughlin completing the records checks. Motion carried 3/0. 7. Discussion and possible action regarding Ordinance No. 15‐860 Amending Section 10‐1‐12 of the Code of Ordinances, Speed Limits. This Ordinance is to reduce the speed limit on the southern portion of CTH M/Main Street from 45 mph to 35 mph beginning at the intersection of Prairie Heights Drive and going to 500 feet North of Locust Drive where the speed limit is 25mph. This is to allow for the construction of a crosswalk on the South portion of CTH M/Main Street. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie to recommend that the Common Council approve Ordinance 15‐860.
