CITY OF VERONA PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2015 at 5:45 P.M. VERONA CITY CENTER MINUTES 1. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order by Chair, Dale Yurs at 5:47 p.m. 2. Roll Call. Heather Reekie, Dale Yurs. Evan Touchett was absent and excused. Evan Touchett came to the meeting at 6:15 p.m. 3. Approval of the minutes of the November 9, 2015 meeting of the Public Safety and Welfare Committee. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Yurs to approve the minutes. Motion carried 2/0. 4. Hearing for Weston Tran Regarding Chief’s Recommended Denial of Operator’s License. Tran did not appear before the committee. Chief Coughlin explained that he denied the application because Tran did not disclose all of his arrest record and he is a habitual law offender. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Yurs to recommend denial. Motion carried 2/0. 5. Discussion and possible action regarding a Special Event Permit for ‘Hometown Brewdown’ on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from Mike O’Brien of Ice Inc. This is the second annual event. Mike O’Brien spoke about the ‘beer mile’. The event would also include music and games Mr. Yurs, Ms. Reekie and Chief Coughlin were concerned about the beer run because it would be too much beer consumption in a short period of time. Motion to approve to the event without the beer run by Yurs, seconded by Reekie. Motion carried 3/0. 6. Discussion and possible action regarding a Temporary Class B Beer License for ‘Hometown Brewdown’ on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from Mike O’Brien of Ice Inc. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie to recommend approval of the Temporary Class B License for ‘Hometown Brewdown.’ Motion carried 3/0. 7. Discussion and possible action regarding Resolution R-15-057 Approving an Intergovernmental Agreement for Operation of an Impaired Driving Task Force. This is the third year Verona is participating in the agreement. Chief explained that it would be an educational initiative to deter people from driving impaired. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Yurs to recommend approval of Resolution R-15-057. Motion carried 3/0. 8. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Touchett to adjourn at 6:22 p.m. Motion carried 3/0.
