Verona Senior Citizens Commission March 13, 2018 Meeting Minutes Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Stiner at 6:01 PM. Roll Call: Present: Luke Diaz, Brad Stiner, Mary Hanson. Excused: Louis Eifert Note: Chad Kemp was appointed to the Senior Commission on March 12, but with such short notice, was unable to join us tonight. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Stiner to approve February minutes, seconded-Diaz, approved, 2-0. Director’s Report  Painting/carpeting of the front offices is underway, with completion expected in 2-3 weeks.  The Finance Committee approved the purchase of Rendever Virtual Reality equipment. It has been ordered and we anticipate incorporating it into our May programming.  A copy of the 2017 Annual Review and 2018 Preview, presented on Feb. 26, is attached.  Our new Case Manager, Kim Crowell, will start part-time on March 19, and will go full time on May 7, after she graduates with a Master’s degree from the UW Madison School of Social Work.  We are working with Miller’s and Pizza Ranch to provide some alternatives for our congregate meals. 100 people are coming to the March 16 St. Patrick’s Day meal catered by Miller’s meal.  Seniors have been encouraged to complete the POLCO city survey, which has questions about the senior center. Dementia Friendly Community Report The Alzheimer’s Assn. held an educational presentation on March 7. Others are planned for April 4 and May 2. Case Management February 2018 Office/home visits/outreach total: 85 Groups: Caregivers support group, Veterans group Training or outreach meetings: TRIAD meeting, TRIAD-CCR training, outreach at Verona Public Library and at Sugar Creek, Prairie Oaks II, Evia, Park Verona, Schettler Terrace, Noel Manor. Program Report February 2018 Total Seniors Served: 364 Units of Service: 1557 Volunteers: 147 Volunteer Hours: 293 Number of Participants by Age: 54 & under: 6 Ages 55-64: 17 Ages 65-69: 52 Ages 70-74: 44 Ages 75-79: 44 Ages 80-99: 56 Ages 100 +: 5 No age entered: 140 Special February Programs: Birthday Anniversary party w/music by Greg Anderson, Valentine’s Day event with music by Randy Kiel and Cindy Harrington, AARP tax assistance appointments, Badger Prairie Cooking Classes, Great Courses video series. Ongoing Programs: Coffee hour, fitness & yoga classes, support groups, cards, art classes, computer & tech assistance, book club, game night, veterans group, wellness nurse services. Financial Update We are 16% through the year, and have spent 12% of our budget. Friends of Verona Senior Center Report Thanks to the Friends Board for supporting the monthly subscription for the Virtual reality system.
