Roll Call Ms. Abaied called roll with Roy Baldwin, Laine Hyde, and Michael Cheselka being present. Paul Layer and Dale Sawaya being absent. 2. Approval of the Minutes: Approval of Minutes - November 2017 Regular Meeting Mr. Cheslka made a motion to approve the meeting minutes from November 2017. Regular Business Façade Sign for Vienna Sports Request for approval of signage for Vienna Sports located at 316 Dominion Rd NE, (Docket No. BAR-79-17), in the CM Limited Industrial zoning district; filed by Patricia Alexander, business owner. Mr. Mike Jreige represented the proposed sign for Vienna Sports. Mr. Baldwin asked how long the sign had been up before the request was submitted and Mr. Jreige stated it was up for a couple months. Mr. Cheselka asked if the material was PVC vinyl and Mr. Jreige confirmed it was. There being no further questions or discussion a motion was in order. Ms. Hyde made a motion that the request for approval of signage for Vienna Sports located at 316 Dominion Rd NE, (Docket No. BAR-79-17), be approved as submitted. Motion: Hyde Town of Vienna Page 1 Printed on 3/7/2018 Board of Architectural Review Meeting Minutes December 21, 2017 Second: Cheselka Approved: 3-0 Absent: Layer, Sawaya Exterior Modifications for Exxon Gas Station Request for approval of exterior modifications for Exxon Gas Station located at 395 Maple Avenue East, (Docket No. BAR-78-17), in the C-2 General Commercial zoning district; filed by Jerry Nix, contractor. Luke Hodgkiss of H&H concrete represented the proposed pumps and concrete pads/forms for the Exxon gas station. Motion: Cheselka Second: Hyde Approved: 3-0 Absent: Layer, Sawaya Mr. Hodgkiss stated that the reason for changing the pumps was to get them up to code with current federal regulations as well as having new chip readers for credit cards to aid in eliminating the use of skimmers. He also stated the forms for the concrete pads are now stainless steel rather than metal to avoid rusting. Mr. Baldwin asked if the new models were more resistant to skimmers. Mr. Hodgkiss stated they are and of the 90 they have installed thus far; none have had an issue yet. Mr. Cheselka asked if the current pad would be replaced. Mr. Hodgkiss stated it would have to be replaced, but it would be the exact same size and place of the current concrete pads /forms with a stainless steel form. There being no further questions or discussion a motion was in order. Mr. Cheselka made a motion that Request for approval of exterior modifications for Exxon Gas Station located at 395 Maple Avenue East, (Docket No. BAR-78-17), be approved Tenant Signs for Vienna Shopping Center Request for approval of tenant space façade signs for Vienna Shopping Center located at 126-150 Maple Avenue West, (Docket No. BAR-77-17), in the C-2, General Commercial zoning district; filed by Tiffany Ferguson, sign agent. Ms. Haley Amy was present to speak on the signs for Vienna Shopping Center. Mr. Baldwin asked how the signs would be lit and Ms. Amy stated they would all be LED. Mr. Baldwin asked why Just $1 and more was so plain. Ms. Amy stated all the tenants reviewed their signs and approved them. There was discussion of the signs and the improvement. Ms. Hyde and Mr. Cheselka stated that they had issue with the color of the sign for MotoPhoto as they had no white on their sign and that it was different from any other sign in the center. Ms. Amy stated the it was the tenant’s logo that was requested. Ms. Amy asked if it would be preferable to do as Cherry’s Nails and have color in just one word and the board was amendable to that. Ms. Hyde asked if the tenants would be amendable to the change in color and Ms. Amy stated that they would. Mr. Baldwin followed up stating that the purple color would be white and the other would be red to match the other signs. There was continued discussion on the remaining signs, and the raceway. There being no further questions or discussion a motion was in order. Ms. Hyde made a motion that the Request for approval of tenant space façade signs for Vienna Shopping Center located at 126-150 Maple Avenue West, (Docket No. BAR-77-17), be approved as submitted with a change to the MotoPhoto sign with the Moto to be the same red as the other signs in the center and the remainder of the sign be white. Motion: Hyde Second: Cheselka Approved: 3-0 Absent: Layer, Sawaya Exterior Modifications for Vienna Shopping Center Request for approval of bicycle racks for Vienna Shopping Center located at 116-224 Maple Avenue West, (Docket No. BAR-82-17), in the C-2, General Commercial and C-1A, Special Commercial zoning districts; filed by Hayley Amey of Rappaport, agent for The Vienna Shopping Center Limited Partnership. Ms. Haley Amy was present to speak on the bicycle racks at the center as well. Mr. Cheselka asked how they came up with the location selection for the racks. Ms. Amy stated she utilized the input of tenants, as well as distributing them evenly around the center without impeding pedestrian’s or handicap ramps. Mr. Cheselka asked if there were 8 in total and Ms. Amy stated there were 8 in total. The board inquired about the color sample for the bicycle racks. Ms. Amy stated the titanium color is Perenne Series model number BFRE-161. There being no further questions or discussion a motion was in order. Mr. Cheselka made a motion that the Request for approval of bicycle racks for Vienna Shopping Center located at 116-224 Maple Avenue West, (Docket No. BAR-82-17), be approved as submitted. Motion: Cheselka Second: Hyde Approved: 3-0 Absent: Layer, Sawaya 4. Meeting Adjournment Mr. Cheselka made a motion to close the meeting. Ms. Hyde seconded the motion.
