Roll Call The Board of Architectural Review met in regular session in the Vienna Town Hall, 127 Center Street, South Vienna, Virginia, with Paul Layer presiding as Chair. The following members were present: Laine Hyde, Michael Cheselka, and Patty Hanley. Roy Baldwin was absent. Staff members Andrea West, Planner, and Sharmaine Abaied, Board Clerk were present. Ms. Abaied called roll with Laine Hyde, Paul Layer, Michael Cheselka, and Patty Hanley being present and Roy Baldwin being absent. 2. Approval of Minutes Mr. Cheselka made a motion to approve the meeting minutes from June 2018 Ms. Hanley seconded the motion. Motion: Cheselka Second: Hanley Approved: 4-0 Absent: Baldwin 3. Public Hearings 405, 407, & 409 Maple Ave E - Aditi Spice Depot and Crepe Amour - PF-44-18-BAR Request for approval of two façade signs (panel replacement) for Aditi Indian Street Food (formerly Turmeric Indian Dining) and Aditi Spice Depot, and vinyl window decals for Crepe Amour at 405, 407 & 409 Maple Ave E, (Docket No. BAR-45-18), in the C-2 Commercial zoning district; filed by Srijith Suku, business owner. Mr. Srijith Suku was present to represent his application. Ms. Hanley and Ms. Hyde commented that the presentation was very thorough and well thought out. Ms. Hyde made a motion that the request for approval of two façade signs (panel replacement) for Aditi Indian Street Food (formerly Turmeric Indian Dining) and Aditi Spice Depot, and vinyl window decals for Crepe Amour at 405, 407 & 409 Maple Ave E, (Docket No. BAR-45-18), be approved as submitted. Mr. Min Zhang was present to represent the awning sign application. Ms. Hanley asked about the light fixture under the awning, which would be in conflict of the door. Mr. Zhang stated the light would not be blocked. There was continued discussion of the location of the canopy and the light. Mr. Cheselka made a motion that the request for approval of an awning sign for Moments of Peace Massage Therapy located at 502 Maple Avenue West, (Docket No. BAR-44-18), be approved as submitted. Motion: Cheselka Second: Hanley Approved: 4-0 Absent: Baldwin 225 Maple Ave E - Walgreens - PF-39-18-BAR Request for approval of a façade sign, and freestanding sign reface, for Walgreens Pharmacy located at 225 Maple Ave E, (Docket No. BAR-39-18), in the C-2 Commercial zoning district; filed by Heather English of Permit Solutions on behalf of Allen Industries. Mr. Gary Brent was present to represent the application. Mr. Layer and Mr. Brent discussed the raceway that is typically behind the sign. Mr. Brent stated the need for a raceway was to house components for the sign. He continued stating the components now are slim enough that there is no need for a raceway. There was continued discussion. Ms. Hanley made a motion that the request for approval of a façade sign, and freestanding sign reface, for Walgreens Pharmacy located at 225 Maple Ave E, (Docket No. BAR-39-18), be approved as submitted Motion: Hanley Second: Hyde Approved: 4-0 Absent: Baldwin 309 Maple Ave W - Long and Foster - PF-43-18-BAR Request for approval of a freestanding sign reface, and exterior modifications (paint), for Long and Foster Real Estate located at 309 Maple Avenue W, (Docket No. BAR-43-18) in the C-1 Commercial zoning district; filed by Fetneh Schacht of Long and Foster Real Estate. Ms. Hanley asked if the monument sign beams would be painted. Ms. Schact stated they would paint the beams, but the same color, black. Ms. Hanley also asked if the Ashen Tan was the same as the color of the brick mortar and Ms. Schact stated it was. Mr. Cheselka commented on the paint colors and appreciated the updated colors. Ms. Hanley made a to approve request for a freestanding sign reface, and exterior modifications (paint), for Long and Foster Real Estate located at 309 Maple Avenue W, (Docket No. BAR-43-18), be approved as submitted. Motion: Cheselka Second: Hyde Approved: 4-0 Absent: Baldwin 4. New Business Ms. Hanley and Ms. Hyde both discussed the exposed dumpsters at Vienna Shopping Center next to INOVA in regards to the trash enclosure left open continually. Ms. West stated staff would reach out to the property management company. There was continued discussion regarding the trash enclosure. 5. Meeting Adjournment Ms. Hyde made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Mr. Cheselka seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned at 8:28 PM.
