Applicant: Red Investment LLC and MJW Maple LLC BOARD OF ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW Work Session December 14, 2018 MINUTES The Board of Architectural Review met in a work session in the Vienna Town Hall, 127 Center Street, South Vienna, Virginia 8:00am Friday December 14, 2018. The following members were present: Roy Baldwin, Michael Cheselka, Paul Layer, and Patty Hanley. Michael D’Orazio, Deputy Director, was present. Tom Kyllo – architect, and Dennis Rice – developer, developer’s partner - were present to discuss proposed plans for a MAC rezoning project at 374-380 Maple Ave W. Board members gave the following recommendations during the meeting: - An all stonewall can appear to be too off putting / imposing, the Board recommended moving the wall behind landscaping or to have a landscape buffer giving texture to the sidewalk side and buffer for the neighbor side. The Board preferred the half wall with iron fence, but if applicant kept the brick wall one Board member recommended to having a corner plaza - On the East elevation to avoid olive drab colors, but rather go with brighter colors. - Make sure main access from parking to retail built to engage commercial area - On the ground level use phenolic wood for the soffit material to soften and warm it up.
