Continuity of Government - Electronic Participation
The Board of Architectural Review met for a work session Tuesday August 17, 2021 at
7:30 pm in the Vienna Town Hall at 127 Center St S. Present in town hall were Chairman
Roy Baldwin, Vice-Chair Michael Cheselka, Patty Hanley, Paul Layer. Linda van Doorn
was present via Zoom. Town Attorney Steve Briglia, Planning and Zoning Director Cindy
Petkac, Planner Andrea West, and Board Clerk Sharmaine Abaied were present in Town
Hall.

Roll Call: Ms. van Doorn, Mr. Layer, Mr. Baldwin, Mr. Cheselka, and Ms. Hanley were
present.
Work Session
444 Maple Ave W - Exterior Modifications - Mixed-Use
Mr. Chris Bell of Hekemian and Co and Mr. Kamran Charmsaz of KTGY Group were
present to discuss the exterior modifications to 444 Maple Ave W.
The applicant and the board reviewed the plans in detail moving through all the design
changes and then proceeded to review the materials one section at a time moving around
each elevation
The board felt there was insufficient time to complete the review so they summarized the
items they would like to see updated and noted items in need of review for their next work
session.
The board would like to see a rendering that more truly represents the colors and updates
the configurations to include the recommended changes. Specifically, the balconies with
extended roof on the upper floor along Maple Avenue, replacing the proposed dormer,
increasing the articulation of the cornice and parapet along the Nutley St. elevation, revert
back to the drawings with the arches at the rear garage by using an engaged arch and
infill underneath the arch with complimentary brick pattern. In addition, the board still
needs to review the retail plan, the landscape plan, the lighting plan and the interior
ceiling design for the arcade areas.
