Vienna, Virginia, on Friday, October 13, 2023. The following members were present: Mr. Baldwin, Mr. Cheselka, Mr. Layer, and Ms. van Doorn. Recuse: Ms. Hanley Staff present: Planner Sharmaine Abaied Applicants present: Steve Bukont & Patty Hanley Vienna Courts (The Grove on Park) requested a second work session to present the changes to the proposed project to the board. The changes included the following: • The updated elevations, with material details, of the 12-building, 24 vertical duplex units. • Detailed proposed landscape plan with the location and type of tree, shrub, perennial, and grass plantings. • The site plan approved by Town of Vienna staff. • Details of materials proposed for the site. During the meeting, Board members had the following comments/concerns: • Have material samples matched with the appropriate elevation when submitting for approval. • Concerns about the appropriate installation of flashing and water discharge for the retaining wall/stone veneer and the stucco and EIFS façade of the residences. • Concerns about the solar path lighting: longevity and intensity of lighting. • Board members encouraged a max of 2700 Kelvins for the residential lighting. • Questions about the location of the railing on the retaining walls. • Board members encouraged specialty grass plantings in front of the retaining wall on Park St. The grass mentioned for planting were Bunny Grass (Little Bunny Fountain Grass) and Mexican Feather Grass.
