Vienna, Virginia, on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. The following members were present: Ms. Hanley, Ms. van Doorn, and Mr. Layer. Absent members: Mr. Cheselka and Mr. Baldwin Staff present: Planner Sharmaine Abaied and Clerk to the Board Yaska Camacho Castillo Applicants present: Jennifer Kosmider During the November 16, 2023, Board of Architectural Review meeting, the board recommended a work session to allow the applicant to incorporate the board's thoughts and recommendations and present a new proposal during the work session. The applicant presented the modifications, which included the following: • Provided a rendering showing the entire shopping center with the proposed changes. • Increasing the brick pier on the left side of the ATM to align to the right side. • Increasing the transom of the window to make the building taller and remove some of the brick. • Adding a cornice detail that aligns with Citibank's modern features. • Adding a brick pier in the center to maintain the brick feel across the façade. • Maintain the blue framing of the ATM. The blue is a mute blue as opposed to the bright blue. The board made the following comments/ questions: • The proportions on the three-dimensional drawing make it look weird, but it fits nicely when looking at the real scale down below. In the future, bring the elevation vanishing point down. • I did catch the concept of you turning and going and sort of breaking the plane of the fenestration with the cube, which was helpful because the predominance of the blue doesn’t exist much anywhere else in the facility. • Does the transom glass glow, or is it lit in any way? • Is the coping slash cornice a reveal, then one step out, then another step out? • How do you feel about the changes? • Are you redoing the landscaping? • I think the transoms above do the trick, and no higher because the way Citibank signs situate themselves on that band is similar to what Chipotle is doing. • The muted blue – is it glass on top of the blue? Does it come in panels? • Make sure they do a drip on the cap coping on top. It will help with not having constant water dripping down the surface of the building.
