VILLAGE OF VIRGINIA GARDENS, FLORIDA

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Council President Arce at 6:35
p.m.
INVOCATION (MOMENT OF SILENCE)
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chaplain DaSilva.
1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A. Regular Council Meeting – May 17, 2018
A motion by Council Member Taylor Martinez to approve the minutes of the Regular
Council Meeting of May 17, 2018 was seconded by Council Member Block. The
motion passed 4-0.
B. Special Council Meeting – May 17, 2018
A motion by Council Member Taylor Martinez to approve the minutes of the Special
Council Meeting of May 17, 2018 was seconded by Council Member Fernandez. The
motion passed 4-0.
2. BEAUTIFICATION
Council President Arce reported that the minutes for June 7, 2018 have been
submitted.
Mr. Martinez reported that he, Mayor Deno and Council Member Fernandez met with
Superior Landscaping regarding the 40th Street Project. Mr. Martinez reported that the
trees have been ordered. Council Member Fernandez inquired regarding scheduling
the Arbor Day and Mr. Martinez responded that it will be scheduled after the trees
have been planted.
3. MAYOR’S REPORT
A. Family Game Night to be held on Saturday, June 23rd from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
Mayor Deno reported that Council Member Fernandez planned a family game night
which was scheduled for Saturday, June 23rd. Council Member Fernandez reported
that there will be bounce houses for the kids and bingo and dominoes also.
4. CITIZEN COMMENTS
Council President Arce reported that Mr. Luis Feliciano of 3801 NW 62 Ave. was in
attendance. Mr. Feliciano has an issue regarding persons parking on the swale. Mr.
Feliciano reported that sometimes there are 2-3 cars parked on the swale. Mr.
Feliciano reported that he has issues with mowing the swale and trash problems
caused by those parking on the swale. Mayor Deno reported that there have been
other complaints in the past years. Attorney Herrera reported that the Village cannot
regulate the parking on the swale.
5. OLD BUSINESS
Council President Arce reported that there was no old business.
6. NEW BUSINESS
Council President Arce reported that there was no new business.
7. PLANNING & ZONING
A. Council President Arce reported that the meeting for the month of June, 2018 was
cancelled.
8. PUBLIC SAFETY
A. Council President Arce reported that the statistics for the month of May, 2018
have been submitted.
Chief Hernandez inquired if there were any questions regarding the statistics for the
Month of May, 2018.
Chief Hernandez introduced the two newly hired police officers, Officer Morales and
Officer Santos. Officer Morales stated that he was the former chief of police for El.
Portal and was delighted and excited to serve the Village of Virginia Gardens and the
residents. Officer Santos reported that he has been in law enforcement for the past 14
years and is currently a firearm instructor. Officer Santos is excited to get to know
the residents and community of the Village.
9. RECREATION
Mayor Deno reported that there is nothing to report.
10. PUBLIC WORKS
Public Works Director Martin has nothing to report. Council Member Block
reported that there was a sinkhole on his street. Public Works Director Martin stated
that he would repair the street.
11. ATTORNEYS REPORT
Mayor Deno reported that there was no report from the Attorney.
12. GOOD & WELFARE
Council Member Taylor Martinez is asking for prayers for Melanie Martinez.
Council Member Block reported that Mr. Steve Petterson was home from the hospital
and thanked the Public Works Department for their help on behalf of Mr. Petterson.
13. MOTION TO ADJOURN
A motion by Council Member Taylor Martinez to adjourn the meeting at 7:07 p.m.
was seconded by Council Member Block. The motion was approved 5-0.
