Acequia Special Meeting: Planning Commission Interviews ROLL CALL Present: Mayor Brian Poochigian, Vice Mayor Brett Taylor, Council Member Steve Nelsen, Council Member Emmanuel Hernandez Soto, and Council Member Liz Wynn MEETING LOCATION: VISALIA CONVENTION CENTER - 303 E. ACEQUIA CALL TO ORDER SPECIAL SESSION - 6:00 PM The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Page 1 of 3 Visalia City Council Meeting Minutes - Final May 29, 2024 1. Planning Commissioner Interviews: Conduct interviews to 24-0221 appoint three upcoming Planning Commissioner vacancies/seats for the term of July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2026. Leslie Caviglia, City Manager, John Lollis, Assistant City Manager, and Marvin Hansen, Planning Commissioner were assigned a Council subcommittee to attend and observe the interviews. The Council convened to three separate rooms as subcommittees for initial interviews of the following Planning Commission Applicants: Adam O'Connell Adam Peck April Lancaster Charlie Norman Isaiah Trevino Jose Flores Mary Beatie Miguel Salgado Pura Cordero (David Avila and Joel Rosales declined to interview after the agenda was posted) The Council reconvened as the Visalia City Council to discuss the top candidates. Council requested for Charlie Norman and Pura Cordero to remain for an additional interview by the entire Council. The Mayor thanked the remaining applicants, encouraged them to apply for other City Committees and dismissed them if they wished to leave. The entire Council interviewed Pura Cordero and Charlie Norman. Council discussed each applicant and ultimately selected Charlie Norman to fill the upcoming vacancy on the Council when Commissioner Hansen terms out on June 30, 2024. A motion was made by Vice Mayor Brett Taylor, seconded by Council Member Liz Wynn, to appoint Charlie Norman to the upcoming vacancy and reappoint Mary Beatie and Adam Peck to serve an additional term on the Planning Commission.
