Vice Chair - The Mayor suggested it's time to appoint a Vice Chair for the committee. This person cannot be a City Commissioner or a City Employee. Adjournment Page 2 of 4  COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES ZOOM CALL MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2021 5:30 PM Call Meeting to Order - Record Attendance Committee Members Present: Jessica Babcock - Chair, Elaina Huizenga-Chase, City Commissioner, Sarah Bydalek, City Clerk, Jena Wilmers, Carla Hendon, Greg Gaastra, Andrew Rienstra-Ehlers, Mary Wiebers, and Nicole DiDoato, City Communications Director. Absent: Julie Wilson Discussion Items Motion by Wilmers, seconded by Gaagstra to Approve Minutes from January 4, 2021, Motion carried. Discussion took place in regards to the Restaurant Highlights Committee Members were asked to reach out to local restaurants to interview. February Plans Nicole is working on Selfie Stations at Walker Ice & Fitness Center and Fire Station 2 for February 7-14th. Random Acts of Kindness - Nicole will be creating cards for this event and possibly asking DDA to hand out and help distribute. Carla and Andrew did research on Black History Month and collected a great deal of information. After discussion with the committee, it was decided it would be better to highlight businesses rather than focus on race or nationality. Nicole will talk further to the Mayor about this item. New ideas: Consider interviewing elected officials and each month highlighting one of them to help our community get to know each one of them better. Adult Easter Egg Hunt- Due to COVID-19 the committee decided to wait until 2022 on this one. March Events a. March 29- National Mom and Pop Business Day January Restaurant showcase February Black History Month, Random Acts of Kindness Week March April May June July August September October November Scarecrow Contest December Wreath Contest Sarah asked the committee for ideas or assistance in helping Walker residents that are unable to shovel their driveways . Jena Wilmers from American Legion Post 1111 stated they would be interested in helping. The committee also said they would like the committee email address to be included so the committee members could help as well. Adjourned at 6:15 pm.
