Easter Egg Hunt: Looking for volunteers for setup on Saturday, March 23 5. Next meeting is Thursday, April 4 (Spring Break) - Should we change it? Page 1 of 3 COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES COMMISSION CONFERENCE ROOM THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2024 5:30 PM Call Meeting to Order - Record Attendance Committee members: Erin Nowak, Nick Erickson, Jena Wilmers, Roxanne Deschaine, Carla Hendon, Erin Gregones, Mary Wieber, Nicole DiDonato Discussion Items Approval of Previous Minutes Park Parties  Decisions on what party will look like: minimal games for minor prizes (ring toss, bucket pong = juice boxes, etc.)  A list of supply donations (teachers and kids) should be available for reference at the park party.  Survey will be available: creation to be finalized March meeting.  Carla will work with food trucks.  Follow up with Leigh Ann regarding the senior center and Culligan/Absopur water. Reading Initiative  Mayor’s reading program for second graders (backpacks and books); open to all students in Walker with no backpack but still able to participate and win prizes: Chick-Fil-A; Double Dip Depot (looking for mini golf vouchers). Information for the “Others” program (kids/siblings not in second grade who want to participate)  Sign up after Spring Break until May 31. (Delivery of backpacks May 28- 31)  Want to get the flyers to schools in March; will coordinate with Bethany.  Potential for sign with information at Easter Egg Hunt;  Books at their own reading level  Bingo cards: to establish how they are to win prizes; Community Engagement Committee Minutes 2-1-24 Page 1 2 of 2 3  Want to team with library to have the kids turn in cardspost-completion  Attendance at Mayor readings gives entry to raffle.  Bonus prizes like gift baskets: 2 bingos to enter.  Potential for one winner per month; end of program pizza party for highest number of bingos?  Social media teasers with City employees reading in different locations and blurb regarding program. Backpack Supply Drive  Will run through summer for late August / early September delivery.  Two lists: one for teacher items (Clorox wipes, paper towels, etc.) one for student items (crayons, glue sticks, etc); coordinate with Bethany to get list of what teachers would like to see.  CEC to separate out for backpack items v teacher items and distribution.  Someone to coordinate with WIFC to possibly host the bin for donations. Safety Town  Tabled as a topic but would like to keep in forethought regarding potential for “road” pad addition.
