Traffic Committee Agenda DPW Conference Room 4243 Remembrance Rd. NW. Tuesday, September 9, 2025 2:00 PM Committee Members: Scott Conners, P.E., City Engineer / Travis Mabry, P.E., Assistant City Engineer / Gary Postema, DPW Director / Keith Mankel, Police Chief / Darrel Schmalzel, City Manager / Frank Wash, Assistant City Manager / Melanie Grooters, City Commissioner Agency Representatives: Jason Cole, P.E., MDOT / Matt Van Dyke, Grand Rapids Traffic Safety Discussion Items 1. Chesterfield Heights Traffic Signal / Pedestrian Crossing: Camille Sleboda, 544 Clinton, reached-out to MDOT to requested that a traffic signal and pedestrian crossing be installed at either Wilson and West Grand or Wilson and Chesterfield. Ms. Sleboda stated that it is difficult to make left turns out of the neighborhood onto Wilson due to the high traffic volumes and speeds. She would also like pedestrian access to Community Park on the east side of Wilson to be improved. She currently has to drive to the park, because utilizing the pedestrian crossing at Wilson and Lake Michigan is too dangerous with small children and pets. 2. 3 Mile / Elmridge Traffic Signal: Chloe Brown and Sharon Coykendall both reached out via the Public Works e-mail address to request that a traffic signal be installed at 3 Mile and Elmridge. One of the requests is for a temporary traffic signal during the Fruit Ridge detour, and the other request is for a permanent traffic signal. 3. DeltaPlex No Parking Signs: The Sign Shop has requested that the Traffic Committee review the No Parking signs that are currently posted near the old DeltaPlex facility. Now that the DelaPlex is no longer in operation, the Sign Shop would like to remove any signs that are no longer necessary from the Citywide inventory. 4. Alpine Estates Stop / Yield Signs: As a follow-up to a previous Traffic Committee discussion, the Engineering Department summer intern created a map of the existing stop and yield signs within the Alpine Page 1 of 13 Estates neighborhood. Discussion will occur on whether the handful of yield signs should be converted to stop signs, in an effort to promote signage consistency. 5. Supporting Documents 6. Informational Item: 1. Multi-lane Roundabout Pedestrian Crossings: Federal guidance was recently updated requiring multi-lane roundabout pedestrian crossings to include a HAWK signal, Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons, or a raised crosswalk. 7.
