Waltham City Council Minutes of Joint Convention of City Council and School Committee January 20, 2026 Mayor McCarthy brought the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. As pursuant to Section 4.3 of the City of Waltham Charter Present School Committee: Coleman, DeJoannis, Tarallo, Wong-Bigelow and Zanghi Present: Councillors Bradley-MacArthur, Brasco, Dunn, Durkee, Hanley, Harris, King, LaCava, LaFauci, LeBlanc, McLaughlin, Tzioumis, Vidal and President Logan. Absent: Katz. Mayor McCarthy spoke on Margie Donnelly’s tenure as a School Committee member. President Logan led all present in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor McCarthy accepted nominations for a Clerk Pro Tem. Councillor LaCava nominated Joseph Vizard. Councillor LaFauci seconded the nomination. Roll Call required In Favor: School Committee: Coleman, DeJoannis, Tarallo, Wong-Bigelow and Zanghi Present: Councillors Bradley-MacArthur, Brasco, Dunn, Durkee, Hanley, Harris, King, LaCava, LaFauci, LeBlanc, McLaughlin, Tzioumis, Vidal and President Logan. Opposed: None. Absent: Katz. Approved 19-0-1. Councillor McLaughlin made a motion to adopt Roberts as the Rules of the Convention. Seconded by Councillor LaFauci. The motion was approved by a voice vote. Clerk Vizard opened nominations for School Committee candidates. Ms. Coleman rose and nominated Elizabeth AlJammal. Ms. Coleman spoke on Ms. Jammals experience as a former School Committee member. Councillor Bradley-MacArthur rose to nominate Carolina Lara. Councillor Bradley spoke about Ms. Lara. School Committee member Tarallo stood to second the nomination for Ms. AlJammal. Mr. Tarallo spoke about Ms. AlJammal. Mr. Tarallo moved to close nominations. The motion was seconded by Ms. Coleman. Roll call required. In Favor: School Committee: Coleman, DeJoannis, Tarallo, Wong-Bigelow and Zanghi Present: Councillors Bradley-MacArthur, Brasco, Dunn, Durkee, Hanley, Harris, King, LaCava, LaFauci, LeBlanc, McLaughlin, Tzioumis, Vidal and President Logan. Opposed: None. Absent: Katz. Approved 19-0-1. With a call of the roll Clerk Vizard asked that each member state the name of the person they were nominating. Ms. Coleman: AlJammal Ms. DeJoannis: AlJammal 1 Mr. Tarallo: AlJammal Ms. Wong-Bigelow: Lara Mr. Zanghi: Lara Councillor Bradley-MacArthur: Lara Councillor Brasco: AlJammal Councillor Dunn: AlJammal Councillor Durkee: AlJammal Councillor Hanley: AlJammal Councillor Harris: AlJammal Councillor King: AlJammal Councillor LaCava: AlJammal Councillor LaFauci: AlJammal Councillor LeBlanc: AlJammal Councillor McLaughlin: AlJammal Councillor Tzioumis: Lara Councillor Vidal: AlJammal Councillor Logan: AlJammal Absent: Katz. With 15 votes for Elizabeth AlJammal and 4 votes for Carolina Lara, Ms. AlJammal was voted as School Committee member until 2028. Ms. AlJammal approach the lectern and spoke. Clerk Vizard presented the Oath of Office to Ms. AlJammal, and she was sworn in as a School Committee member. With no further matters Mr. Tarallo moved to adjourn. Ms. Coleman seconded the motion. The motion was approved by a voice vote.
