McDuffie, Chairperson of the Committee on Business and Economic Development, will hold a public hearing to consider the following measures: • Bill 25-0183, the “Society for Science Real Property Tax Exemption Amendment Act of 2023” • Bill 25-0229, the “Cost-Free Coverage for Prostate Cancer Screening Amendment Act of 2023” • B25-0428, the “Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Real Property Tax Exemption Act of 2023” Bill 25-0183, the “Society for Science Real Property Tax Exemption Amendment Act of 2023” would provide real property tax exemption for properties located at 1719 N St., NW, 1723 N St., NW, and 800 8th St. NW, owned by or being sold to Society for Science, Inc. Bill 25-0229, the “Cost-Free Coverage for Prostate Cancer Screening Amendment Act of 2023” would provide cost-free coverage of one prostate-specific antigen test and digital rectal exam per year. It would also prohibit any health insurer from imposing a deductible, coinsurance, copayment, or other cost-sharing requirement for prostate cancer screening. 1 Bill 25-0428, the “Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Real Property Tax Exemption Act of 2023” would provide for a real property tax exemption for property located at 1708 S St., NW, owned by Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The Committee invites the public to testify, in-person or virtually, and to submit written testimony. Those who wish to testify must register using the Council’s Hearing Management System at https://lims.dccouncil.gov/hearings by Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. All public witnesses will be allowed a maximum of three minutes to testify. At the discretion of the Chair, the length of time provided for oral testimony may be reduced or extended. Public witnesses will participate virtually via the Zoom Video Conference platform. Witnesses will receive instructions on how to participate by Zoom prior to the hearing. Written testimony should be submitted through the Council’s Hearing Management System https://lims.dccouncil.gov/hearings in advance of the hearing. Written testimony will be publicly accessible upon Committee review. If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record. The record will close at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2023. Witnesses who anticipate needing spoken language interpretation, or require sign language interpretation, are requested to inform the Committee of the need as soon as possible but no later than five business days before the proceeding by emailing BusinessEconomicDevelopment@dccouncil.gov.
