COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20004 Revised & Abbreviated CHAIRMAN PHIL MENDELSON COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE ANNOUNCES A PUBLIC HEARING on District of Columbia Auditor’s Report: “Measuring What Matters: More and Better Data Needed to Improve DC Public Schools” on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. Chairman’s Website (www.ChairmanMendelson.com/live) Council Chairman Phil Mendelson announces a public hearing of the Committee of the Whole on District of Columbia Auditor’s Report: “Measuring What Matters: More and Better Data Needed to Improve DC Public Schools.” The hearing will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. live via Zoom Video Conference Broadcast. The hearing will only be broadcast live at http://www.ChairmanMendelson.com/live. This notice has been revised to reflect a change in the time and date of the hearing from Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. to Friday, March 19, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. In the coming weeks, the Office of the District of Columbia Auditor (“Auditor”) will be releasing an audit entitled “Measuring What Matters: More and Better Data Needed to Improve DC Public Schools.” D.C. Law 22-268, the “District of Columbia Education Research Practice Partnership establishment and Audit Act of 2018,” required the Auditor to conduct an audit of the “data management and data collection practices of public local education agencies, including the Office of the State Superintendent of Education, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education, and the Public Charter School Board (PCSB)” in preparation for the District’s launch of its Education Research Practice Partnership. This audit fulfills that requirement. The purpose of this hearing is to receive testimony from the Auditor, Executive, and PCSB about the results and findings of the audit. For this reason, the hearing is limited to government witnesses only. Due to the COVID-19 public health emergency declaration, the hearing will be conducted virtually on the Internet utilizing Zoom video conference technology. Although this hearing is limited to government witnesses, written or transcribed statements from the public are welcomed and will be taken by email or voicemail. Testimony may be submitted in writing to cow@dccouncil.us or may be left by voicemail (up to 3 minutes – which will be transcribed – by calling (202) 430-6948). Testimony received by close of business on March 16, 2021 will be posted publicly to http://www.chairmanmendelson.com/circulation prior to the hearing. Written statements timely received will be made a part of the official record. Written statements should be submitted to cow@dccouncil.us. The record will close at 5:00 pm on April 1, 2021.
