Cardell Shelton Way Designation Act of 2021 Bill 24-722, Swampoodle Terrace Designation Act of 2022 Bill 24-736, Wilhelmina and Calvin Rolark Way Symbolic Street Designation Act of 2022 Bill 24-761, Overbeck Alley Designation Act of 2022 on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, 9:30 a.m. Live via Zoom Video Conference Broadcast Chairman’s Website (www.ChairmanMendelson.com/live) Council Chairman Phil Mendelson announces a public hearing before the Committee of the Whole on eight bills: Bill 24-417, the “Theresa Howe Jones Way Designation Act of 2021 Bill 24-422, the “Torres Strait Way Designation Act of 2021,” Bill 24-427, the “River Rock Court Designation Act of 2021,” Bill 24-436, the “Kenilworth Courts Street Designation Act of 2021,” Bill 24-528, the “W. Cardell Shelton Way Designation Act of 2021,” Bill 24-722, the “Swampoodle Terrace Designation Act of 2022,” Bill 24-736, the “Wilhelmina and Calvin Rolark Way Symbolic Street Designation Act of 2022,” and Bill 24-761, the “Overbeck Alley Designation Act of 2022.” The hearing will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 via Zoom Video Conference. The stated purpose of Bill 24-417 is to symbolically designate the 4020 block of First Place, SW, in Square 6172, in Ward 8, as Theresa Howe Jones Way. The stated purpose of Bill 24-422 is to symbolically designate the alleyway between 1601 Massachusetts Avenue N.W. and 1603 Massachusetts Avenue N.W., in Ward 2, as Torres Strait Way. The stated purpose of Bill 24-427 is to officially designate the alley within Square 969, bounded by 10th Street, S.E., Independence Avenue, S.E., 11th Street, S.E. in Ward 6, as River Rock Court. The stated purpose of Bill 24-436 is to designate the street between 45th Street, N.E. and Kenilworth Avenue, N.E., in Ward 7, as Amin Muslim Street and the street in Square 5116 that connects to Quarles Street, N.E., in Ward 7, as Denise Stanley Street. The stated purpose of Bill 24-528 is to symbolically designate the 100 block of Upsal Street, SE, in Square 6094, in Ward 8, as W. Cardell Shelton Way. The stated purpose of Bill 24-722 is to officially designate the park in Lots 800 and 807 in Square 748, bounded by L Street, N.E., 2nd Street, N.E., M Street, N.E., and 3rd Street, N.E. in Ward 6, as Swampoodle Terrace. The stated purpose of Bill 24-736 is to symbolically the 500 block of Foxhall Place, S.E. in Square 6126, in Ward 8 as Wilhelmina and Calvin Rolark Way, S.E. The stated purpose of Bill 24-761 is to officially designate a portion of the public alley system within Square 1009, bounded by 12th Street, N.E., 13th Street, N.E., and C Street, N.E. in Ward 6, as Overbeck Alley. Those who wish to testify must register at http://www.ChairmanMendelson.com/testify by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2022. Testimony is limited to four minutes. Witnesses who anticipate needing spoken language interpretation, or require sign language interpretation, are requested to inform the Committee office of the need as soon as possible but no later than five business days before the proceeding. We will make every effort to fulfill timely requests, although alternatives may be offered. Requests received in less than five business days may not be fulfilled. The hearing will be conducted virtually on the Internet utilizing Zoom video conference technology. Testimony should be submitted in writing to cow@dccouncil.us in advance of the hearing. Written testimony will be posted publicly to http://www.chairmanmendelson.com/testimony. If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record. Statements for the record should be submitted to cow@dccouncil.us or left by voicemail by calling (202) 430-6948 (up to 3 minutes which will be transcribed). The record will close at 5:00pm on July 20, 2022.
